Mark Gibbs on E-Cat
October 18, 2011 2:24 P.M.
By Reihan Salam
At Network World, Mark Gibbs has a column on E-Cat, a low-energy nuclear reaction technology developed by the Italian inventor Andrea Rossi. It sounds, and most likely is, too good to be true. Gibbs projects what might unfold if E-Cat works as promised:
Let’s assume Rossi’s E-Cat works. What then?
From the demonstrated prototypes it appears that you could build E-Cats small enough to power a car or a house. Bundle a lot of them together and you could power a truck, a ship or an office block. Imagine a data center where each row of racks has its own really cheap power generator.

Now you have a world where oil only matters as a raw product for things like plastics so the oil economy as we know it could be dismantled within a few months. Production costs for anything would fall. The power grid would become obsolete. Power stations of all kinds would no longer be an environmental problem. The balance of economic power worldwide would change and, for example, OPEC would become a historical footnote.

The only risk, assuming that the E-Cat doesn’t become horribly radioactive after extended operation or produce some other kind of hazardous byproduct, could be global thermal pollution from so many power generators (if they are very cheap and not dangerous then niceties such as minimizing waste heat would be ignored).

We could see a world where ubiquitous power generation is so cheap it wouldn’t be worth metering (as a consequence, Rossi would become the wealthiest man in the world, assuming that all of the vested interests in the existing oil and power economies didn’t have him bumped off). [Emphasis added]
A public demonstration in Bologna is scheduled for the 28th of October.

As a thought experiment, it’s worth thinking through what might happen to the wold if “production costs for anything” were to markedly decrease. Might labor-intensive manufacturing in emerging economies take a hit? And if so, will this contribute to large-scale political unrest? Moreover, resource extraction is not just important to OPEC: Norway, Australia, Canada, and the United States, among many other countries, might see a pronounced internal shift of economic and political power. It’s all very intriguing.
This can’t be serious.

The mods are only a click away. Even the guy you posted to thought it was newsworthy.

Better yet, why not ping the mods in ALL CAPS and big fonts? Why do you complain outward but not to the folks who actually can do something about your complaint if you’re so all-falutin’ right? Oh, I know, it’s because you’re a seagull.

How to Prove that the Rossi/Focardi eCAT LENR is Real (or Fake)

But you won’t do that, will you? Your preference is to seagull onto these LENR threads.

A device of unknown construction and function produced heat and liquid effluent when fed with a clear liquid at near room temperature. The device required electrical input at the beginning of the heat production period.
***Good writing. Would you say that one appropriate observation about the amount of heat generated is that it is more than can be accounted for by chemical means?

You got the concept right, you can only deal with what you really know.

***Then you have no argument with what has been observed?

Is there a central agreed link where interested observers can get this information? Your approach is so filled with bias and commentary (and even lies) that it is worthless to those who are interested in the facts on the ground.

“because Moonman and others, have asked legitimate questions, about a man with a con-man past. calling him a “stalker” doesn’t make me believe him or Rossi any more.”

Here is the first post calling Mr Moon a stalker, by me.

“Every time I see E-cat threads, I see Mr Moon posting to you.

I thought it weird.

Usually what is “stalking” is when you can’t post a thread without being harassed for your viewpoint. Like very single time you post, there they are. That is stalking.

Disagreements are fine, but hammering someone again and again and again with the same points, night after night, well, that is not a conservation.”

So, keep your facts straight.
But I do find those who like to “jump” onto those who they wish to silence, aren’t well acquainted with facts.
So, to me, if you keep mischaraterizing Kevmo, that will tell me all I need to know.

Okay, I withdraw the accusation on that aspect. I’m sorry I did not catch that hypothetical part of it.

Would you please just stick to the facts?

!ALERT! BLOG POSTED AS NEWS ABUSE - HUNDREDTH TIME !ALERT!

The piece appears on National Review Online by a regular contributor. It is not a blog in the sense of some individual posting about his kittens. It is an opinion column in a respected magazine's web site, a web site which gets an average of 800K visits per month.

As such it is an editorial/opinion column from a major periodical.

I find this exciting, in that the E-cat is getting notice from regular news organizations.

Kevmo, you are replied to so that others know what a scam this is and Rossi will just fade away.

I hope he totally and utterly fails to get money from Freepers.

The fact is, you are engaged in a hypothetical scientific thought experiment which is an escape from reality.

Your knowledge and interest in the subject are being used against you to hack your mind into believing something that if you stood back from would become obviously a hoax.

So, since this is a hypothetical, a better analogy would be if the Wright brothers had a shady past. It wouldn’t negate what they invented. It would take a good inductive reasoner to pierce the smoke and deal with the scientific facts generated.

The Wrights had enough trouble with the seagullers and Intellectual Property thieves of their day, and their characters were pretty upstanding. Rossi does not have that.

They have an editorial and opinion section, this is from the blog section.

Also the blog copies and pasts from other sources.

News services consider it a blog when there isn’t any fact checking and the opinion writer is relying entire on someone else except with it is an attributed direct quote.

I will look into this, and it looks interesting.

I have known about this, in a vague sense, and I have not followed it closely at all. I might consider asking someone I know who is an EE to help me.

As to the seagulls, I have seen them on other topics, and that is what they do. They aren’t about honest discussion. They are only about silencing those who don’t follow THEIR idea of “right”. AND they have been wrong, and I never did see them apologize. One issue was the housing collapse. Never once did they acknowledge the harm they did to Freepers.

It is disgusting baloney of the highest order.

You’re losing it again. Get a grip.

I still have money in my pocket that I never sent to anyone on a Rossi bet.

And that money was won by putting my money where my mouth is, supporting LENR replication on Intrade.

Your complete lack of skepticism on this issue, makes you look like an E-Cat investor, who rather than realize you are about to lose your entire investment, you choose to intellectually swim in a SEA of GULLibility. (see what I did there?)

Airplane analogy doesn’t hold. Wright brothers didn’t have a shady past and they were paying for publicity either.

Their invention was for sustained powered flight. Others have already flown for sustained periods of time, just now with a powered engine. It was revolutionary but not to the extent you think it was.

This guy is an ex-con that has gone to jail twice with a fake diploma claiming to have invented a machine that gets more energy out.
