Paul says deep budget cuts needed to preserve national security, prevent violent protests
The Hill, Washington, DC ^ | 2011-10-18 | Justin Sink

Ron Paul said Wednesday that “the budget threat and the domestic economy is the biggest threat to our national security.”

He also accused his Republican opponents as having "a lack of understanding of economics" in response to Newt Gingrich's charge that his plan to cut defense spending was "suicidally stupid."

"Just think of how the economy brought the Soviets down on their knees," Paul said during an interview on Fox News. "They had all the military power they wanted but economically it was unsustainable and their empire collapsed so I would say that he is looking at the wrong problem and besides it's wrong to equate military spending with defense. I don’t want to cut defense I want a better defense, a stronger defense but I want to defend this country."

Paul released his comprehensive economic plan Tuesday, which included a 15 percent cut to the defense budget and an end to all foreign aid, amongst $1 trillion in overall cuts that included the elimination of five cabinet-level agencies. The Texas congressman said that there was "a big difference between defending this country and spending endlessly."

"I think it shows a lack of understanding of economics if they think that they can spend money endlessly, that the budget doesn’t matter, and that you can run up these deficits. We are in the midst of a worldwide sovereign debt crisis and we better come to realize how serious it is," Paul said.

Paul is right. The establishment is stuck on stupid.

We DO need deep cuts in government spending, but don’t think that’s going to stop the rioting. We ain’t seen nothing yet. When and if the freebies stop, the burning and looting starts.

When our military gets so weak that countries believe they can step all over our country, that isn’t security either,

Look at history and WW2, We were weak, our planes were outdated, our ships were outdated, our military was thin .

The motto of the USS Ronald Reagan is Peace through Strength.

Maybe Ron Paul is forgetting that the cheapest way to keep peace is to be strong enough that no one wants to have a war with you.

Someone probably inadvertently posted an image from an account that needs a password for access. It happens from time to time. We pull them whenever we encounter them.

I don’t believe Paul is forgetting anything.
He in fact realizes, unlike you, that things eventually need to be paid for.
And that eventually has finally arrived.

Ron Paul says a few obvious things which are true, then always goes off into extremes which show him to be a shallow thinker with no sense of proportion.

Ron Paul is probably the least likely to be nominated; and if nominated, the least likely to defeat Barack Obama. If ever elected, he would probably have to be removed from office for mental problems.

I know many good libertarians, but Ron Paul typifies why the more extreme of his group seldom score more than 1% in elections.

You imply that I am ignorant because I want a strong America.

In fact I also know that we must eventually pay the piper, but if we allow our military to become second rate , we may not have to worry about it,especially when cina is building their and Russia is making a comeback. With Iran ,making a Nuke, a the whole Middle east about to explode.

I realise your adoration for Paul, but cutting our military so we can pay our debt is the wrong move. There are plenty of other things to be cut first including Obamacare, and half the Government employees on board today.Perhaps even Paul could cut his staff. He and every other politician on the Hill.

"Paul is right. The establishment is stuck on stupid."

Except for the budget cuts preventing riots, he certainly is.

Ron Paul is probably the least likely to be nominated; and if nominated, the least likely to defeat Barack Obama. If ever elected, he would probably have to be removed from office for mental problems.

I will give you that he will have an uphill battle getting nominated. The Romney globalists continually whispering in our ears, "Ron Paul can't win" -- when what they really mean is that "Ron Paul must not win" because if he won, their game of using the American people as pawns & chumps would be over.

But as for not being able to beat Obama, he's second only to Romney in the aggregate polls and considering the fact that until last night, Ron Paul been completely ignored by the media, that's not bad at all. In fact, the Obama Left are more afraid Ron Paul than they are of Romney, because they are scared that they'll lose their anti-war vote to him.

You know I wish that I had Ron Paul's "insanity"-- especially back in 2006, when the price of my house peaked, because that "insanity" would have told me that it was time to sell before it fell to 1/3 of that top price. Ron Paul is as crazy as a fox -- and rich enough to reject that $400K president salary in favor of $40K, because he bought gold when it was $100 an ounce. We should all be so "insane"!

This country been drifting to the authoritarian Left for years until Obama, when it really turned even harder Left. It's time for a hard turn back to the liberty-oriented Right and that's Ron Paul.

Well the Soviet Union did not fall because of our free trade with them. We starved them. We are treating Communist China differently by sending them our manufacturing base and borrowing huge chunks of money from them. We are empowering a Communist country. And many here cheer the merger of a capitalist and communist partnership.

I don’t think Ronald Reagan or any other conservative before him would approve of the one sided trade policies we have formed with an avowed enemy of our country. Yet the New Right conservatives cheer the traitorous corporations who take our jobs and wealth to a country where every citizen paycheck is cut through the communist government and the rate of 1.25 an hour is standard pay...and call these corporate whores innovative and “job creators”?

Be sure to go out there and protect communist China from the anger of Americans who see globalism and communism as a threat to their way of life. From what I see of OWS it’s not freebies these people are looking for. Most of them just want their country back. So do I.

BTW As of right now, Ron Paul’s Money Bomb just raised $2,256,769.11 in less than 24 hours from ordinary people around the country.

"Maybe Ron Paul is forgetting.."

I don't think so. I think Ron Paul knows perfectly well that our military is now streched so thin that we cannot help but appear weak in the eyes of the world.

The best way to fix that is to pull back and regroup to rebuild our defensive military.

Forget about trying to build turd-world countries, especially when they don't want to be rebuilt.
