Once-rising Cain may soon fizzle with GOP.

His business acumen, his conservative credentials and his plainspokenness drove his popularity up quickly.

But as with many politicians on both sides of the aisle, the more the public sees of him, the less appetizing he becomes. He has repeatedly revealed his lack of understanding of key issues.

CNN's Wolf Blitzer asked Cain if he could imagine as president giving in to an al-Qaida demand to free all of the hundreds of terrorist suspects at Guantanamo Bay in exchange for freeing one American soldier.

"I could see myself authorizing that kind of transfer, but what I would do is, I would make sure that I got all of the information, I got all of the input, considered all of the options," Cain replied. "And then the president has to be the president and make a judgment call. I could make that call if I had to."

Hours later, Cain denied that he had said what he said. Moderator Anderson Cooper asked him to explain his answer to Blitzer.

"Let me say this first, I would have a policy that we do not negotiate with terrorists," Cain said. Cooper pointed out that authorizing a transfer of Gitmo prisoners with al-Qaida is negotiating with terrorists.

"I don't recall him saying that it was al-Qaida related," Cain said.

So what's worse: His willingness to free all Gitmo detainees in a negotiation with al-Qaida, or his denial that he said what he had just said?

Cain's "I-didn't-say-that" routine continued on illegal immigration. First he said he would build an electrified fence all along the U.S.-Mexican border. He later said he was kidding. Then he doubled back and said "It might be electrified. I'm not walking away from that. I just don't want to offend anyone."

Political season is a big industry and important to every city, has been since TV got in on it. There's knocking on doors, phone calls, re-canvassing, it's just an industry into itself that ought to continue forever.

Perry has it in the bag, but there'd be no market in not developing the horserace. That's why Perry has been half-hearted about it until now. He has a state in incomprehensible drought and until very recently on FIRE, too.

Unlike Mittens who hasn't had a state to govern for 10 years and is 10X the silver-spoon W was.

I hear a giant fizzling sound, and it’s coming from the White House.

The folks in the focus group on Hannity tonight were asked, if their choice comes down to Romney or Perry, who they would vote for. Their choice was Romney. They had nothing good to say about Perry. Looks to me like a vote for Perry is a win for Romney and I’ll bet you won’t admit that this is happening.

My experience has been the exact opposite. The more I hear Herman Cain speak the more I understand he's a very intelligent man, and understands the issues in surprising depth. Pretty lame hit piece.

“Looks to me like a vote for Perry is a win for Romney and I’ll bet you won’t admit that this is happening.”

Huh? Why would you think that? I think a vote for Perry is the same as a vote for Romney. They’re the same RINO candidate with minor differences in their flaws. Mitt Perry is not getting my vote whether they get the nomination or not.

I watched Cain being walked into that trap and no matter how loud I shouted at the television, he just wouldn’t listen.

Cain’s tactic of saying different things to different people will be noticed by voters.

In front of the liberal media he says something, among conservatives he says sometimes the complete opposite.

What you said is what I meant. I’ve been on here too long this evening and I need to call it a night. So I will.

txhurl, I am a Perry supporter, he saved my business, I’ve met the man, I know one of his cousins. My cousin was the firefighter that was killed in the Possum Kingdom fire and the way the State and Perry reached out to our family was amazing. But the attack on Mitts over the lawn guy seemed amateurish when there are better thing to attack him on. Now, he is introducing his flat tax after never mentioning it before and it is going to come across as an attempt to win back the Cain supporters. But more than that, we cannot win the general election with the message “we are going to create a whole new way to take your money and give it to the government” . Our message must be that we are going to takeaway the credit card Reagan forgot to take with him when he left office, we are going to take money away from Congress and let you keep it and we are going to help you get more of it by creating jobs and new wealth and we are going to make the government get out of your life.

“no matter how loud I shouted at the television, he just wouldn’t listen.”

LOL! Maybe you didn’t shout loud enough. Should have thrown something at the TV to get his attention. ;)

That's some of the most incredible spin I've ever read.

We have to let the election season take its course.

Relax. Have fun watching rats deserting their sinking ship.

The most important issue that people want to hear solved is JOBS. Perry isn’t just promising that, he has a solid record of creating a business-friendly climate in Texas, which results in jobs. Texas created nearly as many jobs as the other 49 states put together. People want Perry to do for the US that he has been doing for Texas. This is the bottom line.

Yes, they don't have to rip into each other.

They are playing right into the MSM hands.

Anyone, anyone that ever supported hussein odumber like this ought to be falling on their sword right about now. hussein is an economic and political disaster for our Country. Heck, he's a disaster in just about any category you care to name. I wouldn't trust anyone's opinion who was so easily duped, stupid, or scheming as to support hussein in '08. Anyone that supports him in '12 is truly idiotic and/or evil.

Isn't this one of those negative Cain articles that one of the Perry Fangirls claim Perry Fangirls never post?

I'll give you credit Clairity, “pimping for Perry” is a non-stop activity for you. I can only imagine what you'd be doing if you were backing an articulate conservative who actual was polling ahead of Michele Bachmann.
