Clinton in Afghanistan 'to urge Taliban reconciliation'
BBC ^ | October 20th 2011 | Staff

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in Afghanistan to encourage President Hamid Karzai to continue efforts to reconcile with the Taliban.

Mr Karzai has expressed frustration at the process after the assassinations of several key Afghan leaders.

US officials say Mrs Clinton also wants to convince Afghans that Washington is committed to a long-term relationship with their country.

The US is planning to withdraw troops and hand over security to the Afghans.

"She wants to signal US support for a secure and stable Afghanistan," a US official told journalists travelling with Mrs Clinton.

Her visit to Afghanistan was not announced until she arrived in Kabul late on Wednesday.

Brazen assaults

"She wants to emphasise that the United States remains committed to Afghan reconciliation and will support President Karzai in his efforts, recognising the difficulties that process has undergone since the assassination of [Burhanuddin] Rabbani," the official added.

Burhanuddin Rabbani was a former Afghan president tasked with trying to reconcile the Taliban with Mr Karzai's US-backed government. He was killed last month by a suicide bomber posing as a Taliban envoy.

Mrs Clinton met civic leaders at the US embassy in Kabul before her scheduled meeting with President Karzai.

She assured women's rights activists, education officials and politicians that their concerns were "being heard at the highest levels of the US government".

"I am here to have a reality check," she said.

"I want to hear what people in Afghanistan are thinking about the way forward."

>>but do it right...declare victory and leave.

Leave so Chinese and Russian criminal oligarchical collectivists can secure the regional resources of Iraq and Afghanistan to further their agenda?

Bad idea.

We should’ve been buldozing the Opium fields instead of protecting them.

“...And screw you bleeding hearts who whine about the innocents. We didn’t care when we carpet-bombed Dresden or Tokyo, and definitely didn’t care when we nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki...”

I wonder how the 1940s version of “liberals” reacted to those events...

We were a different country back then, brother. We knew that “the road home leads through Berlin and Tokyo” - with travel deviations through places like Dresden, Hiroshima, et al, and we were determined to get HOME by any means necessary; and if that meant over the bodies of those suporting the war machines from Imperial Dai Nippon and National SOCIALIST Germany, so be it.

Imagine if we would have had the same level of determination to remove the International SOCIALISTS in our own midst at the time, we wouldn’t be in this predicament now.

I don’t know if that level of sociatel cohesiveness exists anymore in this country; we’ve let the dem libs and their communist/socialist pals deteriorate and basically erase our culture to the point where we can’t even decide to call the enemy the enemy.

Not “we” as in ALL of us...but the “official” we that’s supposed to be defending and guarding the country.

Hell, THEY let them in, THEY didn’t watch the bastards, and THEY took their eyes off the ball, which let 19 Saudi Islamobastards fly aircraft into the WTC and the Pentagon.

Did any heads roll, besides those of innocent citizens who were murdered? Did any Alphabet Agency personnel lose jobs for letting these animals into the country and then lose track of them? I don’t think so. We got MORE Alphabet Agencies as a result.

No, we were a vastly different society back then...a better one, I think, than we’ll ever know or see again - at least for a while.

That’s not accomplished by leaving the terrorist’s #1 source of income, opium, untouched.

FAIL.

[we needed to bomb the saudis and other oil rich states ]

Tell us, suuper genius, what’s your plan for rebooting the global economy after you’ve “bombed” the hegemony of the petrodollar?

Meanwhile, what purpose does protecting the Afghan opium field serve?

The appetite of tyranny is never far removed from the tyranny of the appetite.

“Wolverines” LOL. Idiot. Been drinking the Hollywood Red kool-aid much?

first off thanks for being civil and not being abusive(snicker)...

enough petroleum products capable of being produced right here...and natural gas is off the charts if we allow ourselves to produce it.

Cuba funded by other commie states are drilling the gulf...but we cant because we have a marxist in office and enough RINOs in congress to whine about green things and back the idiots who inhabit the WH.

we do not need the Middle East. They need us.

I do not know that we are protecting the opium fields...that sounds like a zer0 thing to be sure...but we need to correct OUR drug problem....not go halfway around the world to correct it.

[enough petroleum products capable of being produced right here..]

But those domestic products are not what secures the hegemony and value of the dollar.

Would you rather OPEC’s oil be priced in Euros/Rubles?

To: LomanBill

you put domestic oil/gass into production.

OPEC then lowers its price and you buy as much oil there as you want for a better price...

Despite increased eradication efforts in Afghanistan, opium cultivation rose by 7 percent in 2011 as compared to last year, according to a new United Nations report. Production is up 61 percent."

[OPEC then lowers its price]

Thus lowering global demand for petroDOLLARs.

Economics 101: Supply+Demand=Value

What happens to the value/price of the Dollar when the demand for it drops?

Now compound that with your suggestion that we bomb OPEC:

1. Observe the defacto agreement between OPEC and the USA that OPEC will sell oil only in Dollars.

2. Observe that agreement’s effect upon demand for the petroDOLLAR.

3. What happens to the demand for (and value of) the dollar when President Wiley Vaquero, suuuper genius, unpacks his ACME pred-O-bomber and attacks OPEC with it?

[so if we are not in Afghanistan we wont be there to protect the poppy trade....]

Or to keep the Taliban from using the poppy trade to fund their activities whilst poisoning the children of its American infidel enemies with the end product.

Back to bidness as usual for the Taliban, with a failed American campaign in the rearview mirror — coinkidinkly just as “former” KGB director Vlad Putin gets “elected” president of Russia for life.

FAIL.

Police our borders from drug smugglers, stop allowing Islamics to immigrate here....kick out the rest(non citizens)....

The War in Afghanistan began on October 7, 2001, as the armed forces of the United States of America, the United Kingdom and the Afghan United Front (Northern Alliance) launched Operation Enduring Freedom. The primary driver of the invasion was the September 11 attacks on the United States, with the stated goal of dismantling the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization and ending its use of Afghanistan as a base. The United States ALSO said that it would remove the Taliban regime from power and create a viable democratic state.

Which brings us back to reality land and the subject of this thread:

FAIL.
