Senator Chuck Schumer is one of two senators introducing a bipartisan bill aimed at improving the housing market by offering an incentive to foreign buyers, the Wall Street Journal report. He and Sen. Mike Lee of Utah want to offer residence visas to any foreigner that spends at least $500,000 on residential real estate in the United States. The measure compliments existing rules that offer visas to foreign investors that create jobs in America.

offer residence visas

I wonder if they are selling green cards. If so, this is obscene.

Any one who can afford to buy a 1/2 million dollar house, is unlikely to require welfare. I would have less problem with these type of immigrants, if vetted properly for background, than illegals crossing the border, with little education, anchor babies and drug smugglers.

Schumer must have a house he can’t sell.
Democrats - always helping the rich.

hm..

well this would certainly be legal immigration... and anyone who can afford a $500,000 home probably isn’t going to be asking for government handouts like welfare...

I am missing something? this sounds like something conservatives could get behind.

This goes along with what I have long believed, that, America’s future will be to provide sanctuary to the world’s rich, in which, we are their servants. Nothing else explains making America a nice place to live but a poor place to work.

The Dems must really be getting paranoid about turning the economy around if, for the first time in my lifetime, they’re expending energy to bring in people who don’t belong to an identified “victim class”.

So one family “inherits” the brothers and sisters money and buys a home....all the brothers and sisters and kids conveniently move in and you have 20 people living together under one roof.

So would I. But I wouldn't trust the State Department to do the vetting. I don't even know who in government I would trust to do the vetting. Do you?

There are areas where half a million can buy a lot of house or houses. What would stop 10, or for that matter, 100 third world families from pooling their funds and living 10 or more to a house? In many, if not most, cases that would be cheaper than a smuggling fee.

A housing downturn may last for months or even years. The wrong type of immigrants last forever.

When you have that kind of money, I doubt vetting will be a problem. Think, these are people from all over the world.

Schumer probably forgot to tell us that they’ll be eligible for taxpayer guaranteed loans. I wouldn’t trust these people to tell me winter is coming and it’s going to be cold.
