Study: Rising sea levels will hit hard in South Florida

A sea-level rise of just a few inches will bring flooding to South Florida cities, contaminate sources of drinking water and lead to sharp increases in utility bills over the next 20 or 30 years, according a study released Wednesday by Florida Atlantic University.

The study found that projected sea level increases of 3 to 6 inches by 2030, due to global warming, could overwhelm flood-control systems that in many areas are more than 50 years old. The authors provided a list of steps to be taken in the coming decades, from moving drinking-water wells inland to installing more pump stations, that could help the region cope with the higher water.

"Unprecedented sea level rise and other climate change impacts are likely to result in serious threats to the water supply, increased risks of flooding, hurricane damage, huge infrastructure investments and other consequences both known and unknown at this time," states the study, conducted by researchers at the university's Charles E. Schmidt College of Science and College of Engineering and Computer Science.

...in related science, melting icecubes will cause a glass of water to overflow.

this is from a left wing, pro-homo, pro-racist obama, liberal, left wing rag, which is probably on life support.

If it would rise 17 feet I would have beach front property

If it would rise 2565 feet I would have beach front property here in Az. Another educated misfit looking for 15 minutes of fame or a Federal Grant to continue doing nothing productive for a few more years.

****erosion of the beach from storms from waves washing out the san*****

Precisely. All along the East Coast - municipalities dredge the shoreline and pile the sand back to the board walks or property lines. If they didn’t use heavy equipment - that could result in ‘shovel ready’ jobs.

Compare 19th century maps to today - and there is no loss of land mass to the oceans.

So if the oceans should suddenly rise low-lying areas will be hardest hit.

To arrive at this conclusion it took a team of researchers from Charles E. Schmidt College of Science and College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Where do I apply to study global warming?

There has been a decreasing rate of increase over the past century at least and no rise over the past few years, in fact, a slight decrease. The Greenland and Antarctic ice packs didn't disappear during the last five interglacial periods, all of which were significantly warmer than the current one that is due to end any time now.

The rising sea levels will cause the unicorns to migrate north, causing possible problems for farmers in Georgia who are raising Mouse-Deer.

Interesting variation on Chicken Little's "The Sky is Falling!" crisis. Only this one is "The Sea is Rising!"

The Sun-Sentinel is to the left of Obama for those who may not be familiar with this paper.

It would be fun to have beachfront property here, but the water would have to rise 5230 feet. How long will it take at today’s rate of rise?

The Bearing Straight once had a land bridge.

Sorry, but if you can't spell "Bering Strait", do you expect me to take anything else seriously?

I live in Florida.

At the end of my backyard is saltwater. The water's at the same level it's been at for over 20 years... considering high and low tides. If it changes I'll let everyone know...

Dear Lord these people are stupid.

I have a friend whose daughter was a contemporary of mine when they were in school. He and his wife have spent a fortune on schools and financial support since she graduated from HS in 2000. Now finally in the last year she has become economically self sufficient. They are so proud of her.

What does she do? She works for a foundation funded almost entirely by one person (IOW it would fail if it needed to make a profit). Her job? She goes to private sector companies and “teaches them how to shrink their carbon footprint”. In her parent’s minds she is now a truly productive member of society.

Should be able to get some good deals on beachfront property.
I'm a Florida homeowner, and let me assure you: you don't need Global Warming to get really good deals on beachfront property.
