WASHINGTON — A Republican Utah senator and Democratic senator from New York introduced an immigration reform bill Thursday aimed at encouraging foreign travel and housing investment in the U.S.

Sens. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and Charles Schumer, D-New York, say the legislation would reduce barriers for Canadian and Chinese visitors, expedite priority visa applications, use videoconferencing to screen foreign nationals and change visa procedures for U.S. allies fighting al Qaeda. It would also provide a three-year visa for foreigners who invest at least $500,000 in residential real estate, including half for a home in which they must live for six months a year.

“This bill supports a free market method for increasing demand for housing at a time when so many working-class Americans are underwater on their homes

I do believe I read somewhere where only Japanese citizens can own property in Japan which I think is a great idea. IMO we need to put a lid on any more citizens or visas for a bit until we straighten out the mess we already have.

'“This bill supports a free market method for increasing demand for housing at a time when so many working-class Americans are underwater on their homes'

Absurd. Gov't clearly is favoring Chinese or Canadian visitors. A 'free-market' wouldn't limited the options of investment.

I guess the beauty of Babel on the Potomac is that no one is immune to it’s corrosive influence. Was’nt Mike Lee one of these uber righteous Tea party frosh. Well there he goes into comprehensive immigration reform.

The really sad thing is that if all the government mandates issued since even 2007 were eliminated and the immigration laws enforced, people here in the U.S. would once again have jobs which would allow them to have money to spend on travel and make their house payments. Unfortunately this what I think is a pretty simple solution wouldn’t cost anyone any money - maybe that’s the problem.

Headline both too long and a big fat lie.

Should be: SENATORS SELL U.S. CITIZENSHIP.

all you need to know about jobs and opportunity in USA...is...basically the better off government is...the worse off we all are..

The story of American jobs and labor is deeply intertwined with predatory Federal, state and local taxation and regulation....

South Koreans sleep soundly on their border with NORKS because of American Taxpayer dollars and the American GI.

Why can’t Texans, New Mexicans, Arizonans and Californians?....BECAUSE

Illegal immigration is THE KEY to the perpetuation of the status quo in DC......

Predatory tax and regulatory policies-actions that basically serve to perpetuate and grow governments-leave what business is left in the country seeking disposable labor.

Illegal Labor is the Feds out for preserving the status quo regarding Taxes and Regulation. Interestingly, that is WHY the Feds encourage in-state tuition etc for illegals under-the-table -their presence providing disposable labor allows Federal, State and local regulatory and tax excess in the status quo to continue

Immigration is the ultimate litmus test as to the candidates in question commitment to meaningful regulatory and tax reform. If they are wishy-washy on the subject...they have no real intent to disturb the DC status quo...no matter how big their cowboy hat and six-gun.

Real”leadership” is that which will place Flyover Country’s interest ahead of the Feds....haven’t yet seen anything meaningful anywhere from anybody to indicate that might happen. We have just one more election cycle to make that happen via rule of law. Otherwise its the end of the run for America.

It appears that immigration these days is all about money instead of assimilation, loyalty and allegiance to the USA. Looks like the globalist Libertarians have taken over both political parties.

Yeah he’s the guy who took out incumbent RINO GOP Senator Bob Bennett of Utah. He had the full backing of the Tea Party. Sure doesn’t take these guys long to get sucked into this “bipartisanship” crap.

BINGO!

When there are no big wads of government cash to be spent there is no way for politicians to skim and scam to enrich themselves and their cronies.

Maybe he’s doing the bidding of Orrin G. Hatch while Hatch “plays” conservative for a year again.

Having had a month or so to reflect again on that 2007 article from the Mexican official his allegations make more and more sense. Just as we are unhappy with our politicians, they are unhappy with us. They want to shift the country’s demographics to a populace “more comfortable” with their kind of leadership.

I'm not sure it is about immigration per se anymore. I think its about bringing as many foreigners here as they can, while doing away with out borders in an attempt to do eventually do away with as many borders as they can in the world. jmo
