Hey, when you see a dog with rabies, you shoot it.

What’s the difference?

People come back and yack “But he’s a human bean...”

Which makes him a violent, vicious, predator with intelligence. Way, way, way more dangerous than a rabid dog.

People also talk about “The wild, wild west...”
Tell ya what. Women and children could walk the streets back then without fear.

They “detained” the Samaritan? That’s crappy. Maybe it’s because, for some reason, he did not have custody of his weapon (told the Police “where it was.”). Not a lot of detail in the story.

I would think your average cop would find that card interesting, in that it shows you may have been planning to shoot someone for a while (premeditation). I’d memorize the contents and say it, rather than flipping a ready-made card on the police if I happen to have to shoot somebody.

"I would think your average cop would find that card interesting, in that it shows you may have been planning to shoot someone for a while (premeditation)."

It doesn't matter what a cop finds interesting and the card does not show you have been planning to shoot someone for a while.

If you'd prefer to verbalize that is a personal decision but all that one should say is, "I was in fear of my life and I'd like to speak with an attorney." Nothing else. You may end up being booked and spending the night in jail but that is much, MUCH preferable to incriminating yourself with extraneous talk.

PS: A card in your pocket shows no more premeditation than does a gun in your pocket. 0=0.

I disagree, but suit yourself. I think it is extremely important what the cop finds interesting: he/she has the power to throw you in the slammer for the sheer pleasure of doing it. They're professional a-holes, and they're given the authority to destroy your life on a whim. I chuckle at the keyboard tough guys who think they have some sort of influence over a beat cop, and all they have to do is whip some card on them like it's a game of Monopoly. I still think, as a practical matter, you are causing yourself more trouble by having a prepared speech for a cop investigating a shooting, your unsupported refutation notwithstanding.

All true. I prefer to verbalize and *keep it short*. It's not that hard to do. And you'd still be spending that night in jail if you had a handy card printed. More likely if you come across as a smart-ass waving a prepared speech in their face.

(BTW, I agree with that poster who told you the other day your text boxes and centered font is unpleasant. I also agree with the other poster who said it makes it easier to skip by your posts.)

same courtesy you show a fellow officer...

you will get no such courtesy - 1) you're not in their union. 2) they generally always get 48 hours before having to talk to internal affairs after they shoot someone.

If you think you have to say anthing, say you were in fear for your life and you want an attorney. nothing more. the less the better.
