“I like Cain, but hate 9-9-9,”

I am in this boat also. He needs to drop the 999 mumbo jumbo and stick to the basics. Private sector jobs and a realistic federal budget. Cutting the federal work force, getting rid of baseline budgeting, etc. The big new ideas just scare the soccer moms/dads and give the dems issues to demagogue. We will need these dim bulb moderates to get rid of barry. President Cain can push major reforms after he is elected.

While that may be true, I believe in the opposite approach. The real life one: “You have this much money, now cut until you get down to that amount.” Rather than the “I want to spend this much money, you get to foot the bill” curently employed by all levels of government. There will be a second civil war, fought for the same reasons. Some people want a federal government king, and some people don’t. The terms and faces involved have changed throughout history, the conflict has not. The idea that someone must work to provide for someone who rule’s them, is age old, and always meets the same end.

Cain doesn’t have a chance in hell to get the 9-9-9 passed but it will show the people he has specific ideas that are more than adding to the already GINORMOUS size of the tax code.

I’m not, because our Government was intended to have a few roles, and those have to be paid for. I prefer they be paid for by constitutional taxes (tariffs, excises and duties) directly linked to the service provided (such as stamps for the post office, toll roads/gas taxes, import duties to pay for border agents and customs officials, etc.), which you can opt out of by not using the good or service over which they administrate. But that is a far, far cry from what the government is doing now.

Thanks you for taking the time to post this. This is what Bachmann should have told the guy at the debate when she was asked, how much money a worker deserved to keep.

No no no. Perry and Cain are conspiring together to keep RP from winning. It’s so obvious!

Agreed. My persoanl analysis of the situation is this. Cain originally supported the FairTax (and logically still does, I’ll get to that). I think his advisors warned him that that would be too radical a change (closer to restoration, actually), so he came up with the 9-9-9 plan to “unite the Flat taxers and the FairTaxers.” Now he has a plan that I don’t really think that he believes in (after a month, he put up on his site that Phase 2 of 9-9-9 is to go to the FairTax), but that he is forced to defend. I think he’s caught in a bad position, because if he emphasizes the transition to the FairTax he will further isolate the “I want slavery! errr “Income tax” crowd, and come under fire for implementing 9-9-9. The mantra will be, “Why change to this radical system if you’re not going to keep it?” (Ideas like “transition” are lost on those who demand a permanent government strongarm). If he keeps defending the 9-9-9 plan, he’ll have to keep tweaking it in an attempt to please people, and that will look doubly bad (see “Empowerment” now “Opportunity” Zones).

I don’t have a political solution for him, but I think he needs to look at exactly what it is that he wants, and take the political loss required to unwind himself from the 9-9-9 plan, and then use his true passion to win over people. I see people get into these positions all the time, the sooner they unwind from them, the better. If he does manage to win the election, he’ll still face the same polititcal roadblock after getting the office, but will end up spending all his efforts unwinding then, rather than now. That’s my take.

You know how the fable goes, try and please everybody and you please nobody.

Absolutely, I have never seen a quasi flat tax get this much discussion. I doubt 999 will see light of day either, but it could inspire some good changes
And I am kind of like Bachman it is too close to 666 s/\

Seriously, no one even brought up Perry, so no idea what your crying about. Perry isn’t even a factor anymore, lets focus on taking out Romney and clearing the way for Cain to bring this home early so we can focus out attention on Obama.

Mark MY words: whoever wins IA and SC together wins. Cain might lose NH---but he'll come in second---and after SC, he'll take FL. The money will swing big time, and the Mittster will be toast.

The only thing now standing between Cain and serious delegate counts is money, and that will come in like a flood if he shows he can win a primary or two.

Thanks, I agree. I like a lot about Bachmann, but she’s not perfect. I think she makes a great representative, but I’m not sure how well she would do as President (that may be a moot point in the current election anyway). But I don’t demand prefection from whomever it is that I will vote for. I demand they love the constitution, or at least respect it, that they love freedom, and that they not want to build up Federal power, but to allow people to grow and prosper according to the principles of choice and consequences, that God laid out for us. I know that’s what the Founders wanted, too. They said as much.

I’m very un-worried about this. Congress would craft it, meaning that you could end up with 9-9 and forget the sales tax, which will likely happen. The explosion in business would be stunning.

“A simple flat tax will be preferable.”

We have a large underground economy with some ripping off social services while driving around with $1,000 rims on their cars. The 9% sales tax is the only way to tap into many of these parasites. With flat tax they pay nothing.

The 9% tax on income is less than SS & medicare working people pay now. With no taxes on capital gains and dividends, maybe us worker bees who save can accumulate a nest egg. Privatized SS could finally allow poor people to inherit the $ now confiscated at death. Cain will unleash the economy.
