And if they are in the military what is the issue? That they will steal an armory of weapons and go on a rampage or start a mutiny on a Navy destroyer and blow up a city?

Actually, pilferage of weapons, grenades, explosives and such is a possible reason for their wanting to join, along with getting training in weapons and explosives.

When you listen to interviews with these guys in prison, you can hear that they would have been right at home in an army of any large empire from the beginning of historical time. Being part of a unit, where guys watch each other’s backs, and the maintenance of a strict code of loyalty to the group - these are all impulses that should have been steered into more legal organizations.

There may be more immediate money in being in a criminal enterprise, but the life expectancy is actually a lot longer in the military. I wonder to what extent the Army and the other armed forces are cultivating leads street gangs.

Gang members are extremely loyal, and will fight to the death to defend their group. They are tough, seasoned, and ready to kill. This is exactly the sort of person we want defending our country. That’s our FBI. On the ball as usual. Gangs in the military have been a problem for a decade or more. Next thing you know, the FBI will tell us that the cartels have managed to set up shop in every major metro area from Texas to California.

The FBI's been busy trying to find a conservative 'lone wolf' - you know - some white middle class, middle aged man... one that could do great political damage to one party - and help another ( guess which one? - yeah ) They're WAAAAAAAAAY too busy to assist the nation... they have political priorities....

There were assessment sin the 90s that indicated Gangs would keep some members “Pure.” No Tats, no Criminal History, graduate high school so they could get in the military to take advantage of weapons/tactic training.

The particular fire in that landmark case was WWI, the shouter was warning against US involvement.
