I fully concur! In this, the Vatican is entering territory it should stay out of.
It has come to my notice that within the modern church, not just the Catholic, there is a push by some to have the state take over what has been the purview of the church--i.e. taking care of the poor (always with us--hello statism--forget utopia), the widows and orphans.

Having "taken a side" with the overbearing EU bureaucrats, the RCC will be unable to provide any neutral voice when turmoil engulfs Europe, Nationalism returns, and angry citizens are looking for someone/something to punish for their woes.
