Conelrad tests are nothing new. Same thing.

I don’t know but it wouldn’t surprise me much if the Birchers got this same paranoia when Truman originally instituted the system. If this illustrates the mindset of the The Maine Tea Party, they appear to be equally psycho.

Since you seem to be familiar with this, why isn’t it done at night as EBH suggested?

why do something like this in the middle of the work day...

Because emergencies happen in all day parts. At my stations I usually run 6 monthly tests a year, sometimes more. Even with the automation if a real emergency happens during the morning, afternoon or evening the operator and other staff MUST know how to handle it. I can't tell you how many times we've had tests or actual emergencies and the people on duty had no clue as to what to do. In one case during flash flooding lives were lost and eventually the stations were blamed and IIRC some stations were fined or otherwise punished.

I don't recall the TV stations being shut down before, but if you say so.... Do you have the dates it was done?

Make no mistake, this is Obama's threat to the people, especially after the November 8th elections this year.
And right after an asteroid near miss, it's designed to "SPOOK The People".

Gee, I wonder if the asteroid's trail meteor showers will be green in color?
You know Obama likes green, hehehe.

I just checked the IMPACT EARTH! generator by Purdue, and it actually wouldn’t do much damage to the Earth itself according to them. Only thing is though you can’t choose for it to impact any one of a bunch of cities throughout the world, so you can’t immediately extrapolate the expanse of damage in your head.

I'll take this 3 min. PSA over the weekly 1:00 p.m. on Saturday testing of the local emergency sirens anytime - those make the dogs howl.

Michael Rivero, you never really left us did you?

Notice how the asteroid warps the orbit of the earth after its fly-by.

That may be the modeling program itself or the code. I doubt something that's not much larger than the Empire State Building could effect the Earth's orbit at all. Which is why I view the theory of having satellites slightly shift the orbits of objects to be preposterous. I don't see how a sat can have enough gravity to do that without using thrusters. And in their model videos the satellite never touches the object.

Don't take me too seriously on this issue. I'm just having fun.

HOWEVER, you CAN pray to the Creator who controls this object.

So wait... this “emergency test” will take place within one day of a projected asteroid coming that close to earth?

Heck, one of a PREDICTED (since May mind you) near miss is pretty damn close and can be miscalculated.

Something is off and scary about this.

Bet it will happen during Rush’s show too, ha. Obama always manages to interfere with Rush like a spoiled little bratty bully.

Go here CONELRAD

for a brief explanation. I don't know if the actual dates are there but I believe the last one was in 1971. It also seems to me we had one in 1959. During that one I was near the University of Pittsburgh with my mother when it went down. Everyone was required to go inside and the then CONELRAD system (then EBS and now EAS) was tested.

If you google you can find the exact dates.

In any case here are a few lines from the listing.

CONELRAD (Control of Electromagnetic Radiation) was a method of emergency broadcasting to the public of the United States in the event of enemy attack during the Cold War. It was intended to serve two purposes; to prevent Soviet bombers from homing in on American cities by using radio or TV stations as beacons, and to provide essential civil defense information. U.S. President Harry S. Truman established CONELRAD in 1951.

Also

In the event of an emergency, all United States television and FM radio stations were required to stop broadcasting. Upon alert, most AM medium wave stations shut down. The stations that stayed on the air would transmit on either 640 or 1240 kHz. They would transmit for several minutes, and then go off the air and another station would take over on the same frequency in a "round robin" chain.

It will not happen?

IT IS HAPPENING. It’s scheduled for that day.

Dang, is everyone in denial?

I know it’s supposed to be an “emergency test” and yada yada, but that is still disconcerting.

Wrong question.

You should be asking “which enumerated power within the Constitution allows Obama to do this?”.

a_c, the answer to your question is "none";

Therefore, it doth follow as night the day, that

SA, the answer to your question is "the Tenth Amendment".

Kinda neat how that works.

Boy is that an exaggeration.

One slight correction I would make. The speech YESTERDAY in Las Vegas, I believe, will go down in history as perhaps the first OBVIOUS sign that Obama has given up on any illusion of respecting the separation of powers in our government. Bypassing Congress to directly give money to people via refinancing of their homes... Nothing short of a direct payoff, IMO.

I swear, if the GOP doesn’t say ANYTHING about his actions being tantamount to the act of a DICTATOR I will do everything I can to support Conservatives to TAKE OVER for the Republicans in office currently.
