I feel as though I am living simultaniously in two parallel universes. In one, in every serious poll I see, Cain is leading. In the other, every time the main media discusses the election they call Romney the front runner.

Their headline is misleading. In the head-to-head Cain vs. Romney, Cain trounces him 63-29.

Romney beats Perry 46-40.

In the primary poll, Cain leads with 39. Romney has lost a bit, so has Cain. Gingrich is the beneficiary there, doubling his support from 6% to 12%.

Before the “it’s an internet poll” people jump in...

It is an electronic poll, not an internet poll.

An internet poll is when someone puts up a surevey on a web page and ANYBODY can vote in it. They are notoriously unreliable (hence the reason Ron Paul keeps winning them, but never wins anything in the real world). This is not what Zogby is doing.

Zogby has fashioned a poll where predetermined people can vote online. Only those people, and only once. It is an attempt to get around current polling problems (fewer land line phones & inability to reach cell phone users) and bring polling into this century.

So far, this poll has been ahead of the other polls in noticing trends, but the trends seem to be exagerated.

If this poll says Cain is up and that Romney is now losing voters, that TREND is probably correct. How close the numbers are to reality is the question.

The important TREND from this poll is that, for the first time, Romney is LOSING voters, instead of maintaining his steady 25%.

I agree, zogby is best for seeing early trends and for judging relative strength, but I wouldn’t focus to much on the exact percentages.

I have participated in Zogby’s online poll for about 6 years. He asks all the questions to qualify you on how likely are you to vote. Then he asks if your in a union or if any member of your family is a union member. He ask whether you attend church. He asks if you are a Nascar fan and how often you shop at Walmart. These take 5-10 minutes to complete. They are a scientific poll. I believe they are much more accurate than any telephone poll.

These emails come to me about once every few weeks. I choose to participate. It is up to him to select the correct demographic percentages to make up the results.
