Steve Forbes: Rick Perry will win the Republican nomination
The State Column ^ | Oct., 27, 2011 | Staff

Former presidential candidate and current media mogul Steve Forbes said Thursday the Texas Republican governor Rick Perry is likely to capture the Republican presidential nomination.

"He was good on taxes and spending in Texas; he was very good on tort reform. Texas has been a cesspool for injury lawyers, and he made major changes - and the proof of it was they all moved to Oklahoma. And obviously I like his ideas on a flat tax. I think he genuinely wants to get the thing done. So it seems to be a good combination," Mr. Forbes said in an interview with the Daily Beast Thursday.

“In what way do you find Mr. Cain not socially conservative?”

In what way do the Empowerment Zones and jiggered, progressive tax rates make sense? I am NOT doing anything but trying to understand how this all fits with a conservatism. I am completely undecided on this. I realize there are no firm plans out there. I am talking about the philosophical underpinnings of the candidates.

Romney has zero chance to reach the head of a ticket.

Mitt has never reached an approval rating higher than twenty five percent among Republicans despite all the money he pours into his campaign.

He never will either.

If he ever makes it onto a ticket at all, it will be as VP.

Oh, I agree. Perry is not a good speaker, mostly (I think) because he’s used to speaking to a conservative state where most people outside of UT Austin agreed with him. And Cain is just glib and has no experience and no depth.

Gingrich is my preferred candidate. I’d love to see him as the candidate, but I don’t think GOP Central is even remotely interested in this. They have made up their minds, and it’s going to be Romney (probably with Cain as his VP).

but he’s not very socially conservative

Your ignorance of Herman Cain appears to be total The 9th Commandment is not a suggestion. Bearing false witness is still a sin.

If Perry had a real shot he would have stepped down as Governor by now.

Well, maybe the fact that he’s had to backtrack on several things.

Also, Cain has NO governing experience. He has never had to support legislation, gain general support for his viewpoints, or work with other entities. He ran a business and had a radio program. So his opinions, even if they had been solidly pro-life and conservative, would have been simply that: opinions.

At least Perry, while he’s not a sparkling speaker, fought for and got pro-life and other conservative positions (such as the rejection of sanctuary cities) passed.

Well since we have demonstrated you are completely ignorant about Cain, how about instead of spamming the thread with your ignorant emotion based opinions, you try and spend your time learning about Cain instead?

RINO Ricardo is a total loser. I was prepared to give him a second chance if he pursued the eligibility issue, but he folded within hours to MSM pressure like a coward. Mitt may be a socialist but let’s face it he is a winner whereas Slick Rick is just lame.

You means the same Empowerment Zones Ronald Reagan wrote in his tax reform bill?

What part of 9-9-9 do you completely fail to understand? There is NOTHING progressive about it.

Try actually learning about 9-9-9 rather then let those with an agenda tell you what to think about it. You display just about a total ignorance of what is actually in the 9-9-9

Perry can win this. Romney is a rhino-Cain doesn’t know how he stands on abortion- Gingrich is great but not exciting-Perry has an immigration issue. Perry made some stumbles but the attacks are way out of line

I was very pro-Perry back in August but he has really hurt himself and now seems desperate. Adding Bush people and having stammering non-focused debate answers, he’s going to have a more difficult time shedding the Bush, part III label than I first thought.

Regarding dueling tax plans, none of that matters unless you have veto-proof majorities in the House and Senate which I just don’t see happening.

I’m honestly not enthused about anyone in the GOP field right now and that is depressing because the opportunity is so right for a conservative blowout. And, no, I’m not pouting over Sarah. She wasn’t going to win with her negatives anyway.

Well, I feel totally chastised, given your credentials.

He was a Democrat, too. We all make mistakes. Read much history?

Forbes Magazine is as OPEN BORDERS as you can get and still be considered within the “Republican” sphere of political belief. Malcolm Forbes editorialized for the 1986 Amnesty bill. So it comes as no surprise that Forbes would champion Perry - who would most certainly support a Bush-style amnesty bill were he to become president.

After the (cough) “excitement” over Perry’s flat tax dies down-——I hear Ricky is going to announce a vaccine to wipe out diptheria in our lifetime.

There’s also been serious discussion at Ricky’s HDQ about Ricky decrying the assasination of Archduke Ferdinand.

“Cain is just glib and has no experience and no depth.’

I’ve read a lot of Cain hatin’ comments, but this one stands alone. If you have actually read Cain’s bio yet you believe what you wrote, then I can certainly understand why you like Gingrich. Any pol who will endorse Dede Scozzafaza and ham it up w Pelosi must be very ‘deep’ in your book.

Your commentary on 9-9-9 indicates your information about it is wholly based on what agenda drive commentators have told you to think.

Try actually forming your own opinions for a change instead of waiting for someone else to tell you what to think
