All Three Networks Hype 'Bombshell Blast' Against Herman Cain
Newsbusters ^ | October 31, 2011 | Scott Whitlock

All three morning shows on Monday hyped a "bombshell blast" against Herman Cain, playing up a story in Politico charging the Republican presidential candidate with sexual harassment back in the 1990s. ABC's Good Morning America led with the allegations.

Co-host George Stephanopoulos, whose former boss, Bill Clinton, repeatedly faced sexual harassment claims, touted, "And this morning, bombshell blast. Major allegations against front-runner Herman Cain. Two former female colleagues accuse him of sexual harassment."

CBS's Early Show ...Crawford also connected the allegations, linking, "...This reminds me of similar allegations that were levied just 20 years ago against Justice Clarence Thomas who, of course, was accused of sexual harassment himself."

.... MAGGIE HABERMAN (Senior political writer, Politico): Uh, I think the story was extremely well reported and it really speaks for itself. We gave the campaign ten days to respond to this. They repeatedly did not directly address the specifics of this. And when one of my colleagues, Jonathan Martin, approached Mr. Cain directly yesterday. And he did not say these allegations are false. He didn't really even address it. So, I think the story is thoroughly reported and, again, I think it really does stand.

STEPHANOPOULOS: The sources are anonymous for the most part. You speak to some members of the board of the National Restaurant Association. They said they knew nothing about this. Did you speak to the women involved?

HABERMAN: You know, we spoke to many sources. I'm not going to specify who we spoke to. I think we spoke to a lengthy roster of people who were around the NRA at the time, former board members, former staffers, as we said in the story. But, I think I'm going to let the sources have protection.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Why can't you say you spoke to the women?

Amazingly, our local NBC affiliate reported it as an “as yet unverified bombshell.” So if it’s not verified, why report it? (As if we didn’t know...)

Um....and then there was that rape allegations against Slick made by named source K. Wiley (shortly after her husbands death).

“Sexual harrassement” is defined as anything any woman says it is, depending on her mood, the time, place, how much money the woman can get for making the accusation or if she can get promoted.
Now that you know the guidelines, go forth and sin no more.

“I’m not going to specify who we spoke to”

No, why would you? It might ruin the gossip.

Remember all the media hype over Larry Sinclair and Soetoro? I don’t either.

Not to nit pick but Clarence Thomas was falsely accused after he was nominated wasn't he? Didn't Anita Hill just come out and charge him?

This is a 15 year old settled case that Cain says he was falsely accused.

This was coming out one way or another. Better now than Oct. 31st 2012.

This is not much different than the story about the Perry hunting camp.

Um....and then there was that rape allegations against Slick made by named source K. Wiley (shortly after her husbands death).

Juanita Broderick, Paula Jones, Katherine Wiley, Monica Lewinsky (although consensual - a CEO 'using' the hired help for sexual gratification is a definition of harassment) -- all met with silence by the MSM (aka, 'Propaganda Wing of the DNC').

My speculation regarding the Cain charges is that they come down to him having used some 'off-color' words, or jokes, in a meeting in the 1990s.

He’s going to “give the sources protection”.

These women apparently signed an agreement, took money, agreed there was nothing wrong admitted, and agreed they would not discuss this.

But years later they will violate their agreements and slime Cain with reporters as “anonymous sources”.

I’m guessing Cain comes out of this fine.

I’m shocked, I tell you. Did he give them oral sex?

I’m waiting breathlessly for the details!

Film at 11.

The cable news programs were also running with the allegations, including Fox. Politico writers are upset because Cain won't give them any information, other than it is false.

This is a prime example of why women should stay at home. Barefoot and pregnant. Doing the chores. Doing the milkman. Ya let ‘em out and they cause all kinds of hate and discontent.

Yes, if what he allegedly did was so bad, why aren’t the reporters spelling out the details?

If you’ve operated in this modern environment, you run into ultra sensitive people and odd situations right and left.

It will die unless there are really juicy details.... like he cheated on his wife.

I won’t accept an adulterer for President. Be that as it may, the MSM is for now making a big deal over nothin’.

—Better now than Oct. 31st 2012.—

This timing is to kill his nomination. I’m thinking it ain’t gonna work though. Way to similar to the Thomas lynching, in it’s tone alone.

Something that was vetted and settled 15 years ago is not a bombshell.

Yup. They could tell us if he said anything lewd or degrading to the women or sexually propositioned them.

Allegations are just that... allegations and they do not even rise to the level of a risible offense.
