The FBI rounded up a network of deep-cover Russian spies last year after the group came close to placing an agent near a Cabinet official in the Obama administration, a senior FBI counterspy said Monday as the bureau released once-secret documents on the case.
...U.S. officials said it was Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Mr. Figliuzzi said in an interview that the FBI decided to end its more than 10-year-long counterspy investigation of the network because of concerns that the spies were getting very close to their objective.
These 10 Russian officers were sent to the U.S. on a specific mission to get close to U.S. policymakers and leaders in our government, he said, noting that one had developed a friendship with someone close to a Cabinet official.
Mrs. Clintons spokesman at the time the case broke, P.J. Crowley, sought to distance her from the case, but did not deny that she was the person mentioned in court papers. There is no reason to believe that the Secretary of State was a special target of this spy ring, Mr. Crowley said in an email.
The spy who triggered concerns about high-level infiltration was Cynthia Murphy, later identified as Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) officer Lydia Guryev. Court papers say she met several times with a prominent New York-based financier active in political fundraising and described as a personal friend of a Cabinet official.
It was later disclosed that the financier was Alan Patricof, director of the venture capital firm Greycroft LLC and a donor to Democratic candidates, including Mrs. Clinton when she was a U.S. senator from New York.
Mr. Patricof said last year that he met Gureyev, whom he knew only as Cindy Murphy, several times and that she had been hired to do personal bookkeeping...

Bingo
Yer killin’ me.
Russians are very good at honey potting and Americans are very suseptible.
I suspected, just from reading the headline, that it was Hillary. She and Bill are traitors. Onada is not a traitor because he is not a citizen. He is an enemy.
A billionaire hires a woman who claims to be politically connected as a personal bookkeeper? That he only met a couple of times?
Who does that except someone who wants to be intentionally fooled?
Will anything happen to a politically connected Commie who helped get this ring established with cover stories?
“Dog it. The Roosky spy probably stood out like a sore thumb because he was more conservative than the rest of Obamas cabinet.”
An absolutely wicked comment! I agree.
I hereby B U M P that !
Wait a minute. If they admit that Hillary is the deep-cover Russian spy, how come they say the network only got close to placing an agent near a Cabinet official?
Oh. Wait. I misread that. They're saying Hillary is the Cabinet official, not the spy.
HA! Riiiiiiiiight.
...uh, the Russians have allies all through this regime. That piece of crap weapons treaty signed by Hussein early on, just after he seized power, was bad for America.
I would guess that “personal bookkeeping” is a euphemism for sexual services, and that she was bookkeeping for other wealthy Democrats.
But then they realized thad the spy and the target shared the same name and called off the mission?
During the 2008 primary season federal authorities disrupted the illegal flow of cash from China into the Clinton campaign. It may be Patricof played some role. The Russians may have been consulting with this guy on creating a laundering mechanism to feed cash to Democrats in 2012.
Democrat adminitrations are soft targets for Russian spies. They are kindred spirits. Look at the FDR administration, they had Russian spies behind every door. When will the stupid party start bringing this up?
File this under:
“News you won’t be seeing on MSNBC...”
That file keeps growing and growing, doesn’t it.
Perhaps this is to keep Hillary from running against BHO in the primaries...
Hillary’s idea of a wild party.
I think they decided to end the investigation for the same reason they ended the investigation when Blagojevic’s pay to play deal came too close to catching Obama’s hand in the cookie jar.
Some of the material collected and transmitted by the accused spies dealt with U.S. research on nuclear bunker buster bombs, according to the federal document charging the members of the ring. They also sought information on Pentagon planning, U.S. policy toward Central Asia and research on terrorists gaining access to the Internet.-——
