Supporting Cain, GOP base evokes Thomas hearings

ATLANTA (AP) — Conservatives rallied around Herman Cain as he battles sexual harassment allegations, likening the attacks on the Republican presidential contender to what they describe as the "high-tech lynching" of another prominent black Republican: Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

The forceful early reaction to the Cain firestorm — fueled by racially charged rhetoric — suggests the Georgia businessman's attempt to cast himself as a victim of the media and liberals is, so far, paying dividends among his conservative Republican base, who will hold considerable sway in selecting the party's nominee.

But the accusations against Cain, an untested newcomer on the political scene, may give more moderate GOP voters pause and could cause would-be donors to shy away even as Cain works to capitalize on his rising poll numbers. With the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucus less than three months away, the harassment allegations — and Cain's response to them — have the potential to reshuffle the GOP race.

So far, the early cry from the right is to support Cain using a race-based defense and familiar targets. Becoming a target of the left and the media could bolster Cain's support among those who view those groups with disdain.

The article IMHO was well written considering it’s purpose.

Moderates believe in nothing except being impartial, always reassessing their assuptions.

...all the while considering themselves well reasoned.

Fertile ground for a charlatan.

Why would you ever take the allegation seriously?

Even if true, is it worth throwing away the chance to recue our Republic.

I implore you to think in terms of perspective.

`You sir win the gold star. That is exactly what this story is about, to drain off any moderates and independents as they can.

I think you’re exactly right—people who just read headlines and don’t go further, as people do on FR, will have a negative impression. When I picked up my husband from work yesterday, he said, ‘your man Herman is in some trouble.’

I said it these charges were all ridiculous.

But at least this happened now, not a year from now. He is a good man and that will show through.

It caused this "would be donor" to donate yesterday {for the third time} and as long as Herman is running, I'm going to keep on donating.

If he is still standing when the primary vote comes to my state {PA} I'll not only donate I'll be working for him, phone banks, signs, driving Cain supporters to the polls, whatever it takes.

I'n the general election, regardless of which pubbie is running against obummer, me {and my little friends} will be poll watching in one of the most corrupt precincts in W PA.

If you are in a "swing state" or even one where there is a chance that we might win, volunteer and work and the pubbies always need poll watchers.

Don't let the demonRAT BASTARDS steal any more elections.

Got me thinking. It is well-documented through research that American Blacks are racially prejudiced against dark-skinned blacks and prefer lighter-skinned blacks as their leaders. What does racial stereotyping even mean for this election?

It’s funny because the GOP base was mot supporting Cain before this!

I’m not sure that is true. I always liked Mr. Cain but began actively supporting him after Sarah dropped out. I don’t think I’m alone in that.

Not only should Clarence Thomas be invoked, but, the raper, abuser Bill Clinton should be invoked, especially Juanita Broderick. She was brutally raped with evidence, the Clinton’s and their media collaborators did ever thing they could to bury this.

How much feminista outrage was there over that debacle.

Before I stop my support for Herman Cain, I want his accuser to come forth with, not just the blue dress, but at least five minutes of video evidence.

I knew once Cain started talking about this it would cause him nothing but trouble.

Yesterday Scarbouro went after Cain for not answering the question “Have you ever been accused of ...” and said that non-answer proved he was NOT ready.

Don't take the bait I was screaming inside.

Today Scarbouro specifically called Cain a liar for the two answers he gave on a past company settlement during the two interviews yesterday.

Assuming he really isn't sure about the details of the allegations he shouldnt be out there speculating. Politico didn't even have to produce one real person and now the story is about Cain's answers. If he does know but the other parties must legally stay quiet per an agreement he still shouldn't be digging himself a hole.

I certainly am thinking in terms of perspective. I am just not sure yet that I want to throw in with Cain.

I am certain I won’t vote for Romney.
Perry-——??
Even Newt is a maybe.

I have a while to ponder.Elections are not tomorrow.

Thank you. That's very well-put and I will repeat it when appropriate.

"Disdain", huh? I don't think that word is quite strong enough. Loathing? Contempt? Antipathy? Hatred?

The parallel to the Clarence Thomas hearings is there its true. What’s different is who is voting and this time it aint some group of unprincipled Senators who dot care a whit about our country anymore. You still got my vote Mr. Cain.

African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view. I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it's just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple.
