Cain surges despite scandal (Cain 32% Romney 15%)
Poll Position ^ | 11/2/11 | Eason Jordan

Posted on 11/02/2011 6:25:27 AM PDT by TexasFreeper2009

Our new national poll finds Herman Cain is the breakaway frontrunner for the 2012 Republican nomination despite the fresh disclosure that he faced sexual harassment in the 1990s.

More Republicans and independents than ever say they want Herman Cain to win the Republican nomination.

Our national scientific poll was conducted last night, two days after the Cain controversy erupted and one day after Cain emphatically denied ever committing sexual harassment.

Among Republicans, Cain tops his next closest challenger, Mitt Romney, 33%-18%. They were followed by Newt Gingrich at 17% and Rick Perry at 12%.

Independents favored Cain over Romney 30%-11%, with Ginrich at 9% and Perry at 6%.

Among Republicans and independents combined, Cain garnered 32%, Romney 15%, Gingrich 13%, and Rick Perry 9%.

The poll question: “Who do you want to win the 2012 Republican presidential nomination – Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, or someone else?”

Our national scientific telephone survey was conducted November 1, 2011. We interviewed 1,032 registered voters – 417 Republicans (margin of error +/- 5%) and 343 independents (margin of error +/- 5%). The combined tally of 760 Republicans and independents has a margin of error of +/- 4%.

I am 100% Cain. Newt? He’s my fallback. I really like his ideas and his delivery. Newt is usually the smartest guy in the room. Any room, it doesn’t matter. He is very much Presidential material. If Cains’ campaign implodes, Newt is going to be my guy.

I would love to see a Cain/Gingrich ticket, or even vice versa.

Newt and Cain are both excellent.

What we’re learning this week, is that Cain has that something which Ronald Reagan also had:

Teflon.

That gift that when attacked, others naturally rush to his defense. That’s a sign of leadership.

A lot of times polls (unless they are Rasmussen or Gallup) don’t live very long in breaking news.

>> Did you see Cain on Special report last nght, with the panel. he was so cool, relaxed..comfortable, like a man who knows tha he did nothing wrong, and has nothing to hide. ou can’t fake that. >>

I did. I thought he “left some money on the table” with his state sales tax issue, which he is right on, but does not explain as well as I’d like. Same with life issues, where he understands his limitations to have the law he’d like on that, but does not close the deal on that either.

But yes, he was cool on the harassment issue, I agree, and overall very good.

I was disappointed in the low level of intellect shown last night by Bret and Dr. K.

I really hope Newt continues to climb. I just can’t support Romney, no way. Cain is just foolish regarding the issues. He has no idea about foreign policy..I am embarrassed for him when he tries to answer important issue questions. This was a great opportunity for someone to stand out and take hold of the reigns....just really disappointing.

This weekend’s Lincoln-Douglas debate between Cain and Ginrich should help Cain project a man of dignity and strong faith (you’ve all seen Cain’s speech before).

I’m glass CSpan will provide live coverage on this debate. Again, this is like free advertisement for Cain.

I agree. I think it was because they felt pressured to cover everything in a short time period, and tey had to address the harassment scandal. What they should have done was to let the show run over an extra 30 minutes..they had a unique opportunity..with Cain right there.

I was made “uncomfortable” many times by a male co-worker who insisted in telling me highly suggestive stories and other things that should only be discussed between men. Bottom line: the guy is an idiot and I told him off. We now work in separate areas of the same office. He works in an area with one other male and we get along fine. Problem solved.

Hah! The MSM liberals must be at wit's end trying to figure out how to stop the Cain Train. This "scandal" gave him a surge in donations and a huge boost in the polls.

I think both Cain and Gingrich will benefit greatly from their Lincoln/Douglas debate on Saturday. C-SPAN will be televising it, broadcasting it on C-SPAN radio, and streaming it live on c-span.org. It starts at 8 p.m. EST. Make sure to tune in!

Newt is a great debater, historian and an extremely intelligent man. That said, his character flaws and propensity for sucking up to our enemies makes him a non-starter for the job of POTUS.

He is better suited for a possible cabinet position but that’s as far as I can go in supporting him.

Oh, to clarify; Cain is not even REMOTELY comparable to my co-worker.

Cain is - as you said - the victim of a hysterical liberal woman ‘trying’ to turn it into a scandal.

Libs are absolutely TERRIFIED of Cain opposing 0bama,
because they know that their actual COMPETENCE will have to be compared instead of avoiding such a discussion with the argument “he’s black, questioning his competence is inherently racist”.

I like Cain/West - 100% Black versus Obama/Biden 25% African American. I haven't sorted out the practicality of the Cain/West ticket - I just like the slogan.
