Tammy Bruce : Cain’s Reaction to Scandal Shows He’s Not Ready for Prime Time
Newsmax ^ | November 01, 2011 | Tammy Bruce

Posted on 11/02/2011 8:00:30 PM PDT by RobinMasters

It’s been fascinating to watch both the Herman Cain camp and the Republican establishment react to the sexual harassment allegations brought to light about Herman Cain by Politico.

While it is still too soon to determine what exactly did happen years ago when Cain headed the National Restaurant Association (NRA), two things are clear — Cain is still winging it (and not well), and the Republican establishment has been expertly conditioned by the left when it comes to kneejerk accusations of “racism.”

In politics, the reaction to a controversy is very often more enlightening and important than the details of the allegations themselves. I’m still perplexed by the insistence by some on the right that Democrats or liberals somehow initiated these charges against Cain.

Cain has plenty of opponents, and while they may not be conservative, right now they all have “Republican” after their name.

As Cain has risen in the polls, one person in particular benefits from this attack and that’s Mitt Romney. Perhaps many on the right do not want any GOP candidate smeared with, er, unleashing a smear? Whatever the reasoning, it’s Cain’s GOP opposition that has everything to gain from this new storm.

Combined with preferred but likely false declaration of liberal responsibility for the attack, is the even stranger assertion that racism is fueling the accusations. Actually, what’s fueling the story is the fact that something happened at the National Restaurant Association involving Cain.

Since Palin isn’t running, she’s probably turned into a closet Mittbot.

Libs get a pass on stuff the MSM will crucify a conservative for. This is the reality and many get their news from the MSM.

I support Cain but he may get destroyed by the MSM and the Perry/Romney establishment.

There is no way out of such a trap except to ignore them and keep on truckin’.”

Agreed. The press is trying to create one of their gotcha moments. If just one of them would have the guts to go on public record with hard facts and documentation then I would expect him to respond. But he has more important things to do than chase shadows. This is just a sample of what Sarah went through for months. No wonder she opted out.

With all due respect to Speaker Gingrich, Gingrich handled this sort of situation badly when liberals perfected it on him.

Cain is doing fine.

Showing the GOP how it’s done, in fact. Take notes.

Cain is doing fine.

Fine? LOL. He and his campaign had 2 weeks to prepare for this and yet still managed to bungle their response. They act like they were taken by surprise, yet we find out Politico told them like 2 weeks ago they were working on this story.

Cain's campaign has handled this abysmally. Herman is a novice candidate and his campaign team are as well - and it shows. The guy is clearly winging it. I seriously doubt he ever expected to be leading any polls, and they simply don't know how to run a real campaign. And now they are directly accusing the Perry campaign of leaking the story, yet have offered no actual proof.

Oh I agree that Gingrich also mishandled these sorts of attacks in the past, but Newt is someone I wrote off long ago - partly because I have no faith in his ability to respond to this sort of thing. Sadly, out of desperation, I may be forced to back Gingrich simply because the rest of the field is so awful at this point.

would you reveal your hand,

I'd at least have my ducks in a row rather than respond as if I didn't know it was coming.

Herman Cain is a joke.

He would have been a train wreck for the GOP if we allowed OUR white guilt to give him the nomination.

"Something happened," says Tammy.

A hand held at the height of his wife. That's all from One and Two--investigated after Cain recused; found to be without basis.

Three--anonymous will not speak save through ventriloquist lawyer.

Four--Deace the admitted reformed porn addict now sacrimonious Church Lady says Cain complimented the former's woman staffer on "how pretty she looks."

Tammy, exmine your gut reaction to a Baptist married for 43 years to a woman, a devout man who believes homosexuality is a choice and a sin.

Now tell us again who is not ready for "prime time."

If "prime time" is Kim Kardashian, why, then, Kim Kardashian is not ready for prime time.

Are you saying plastic baby-killer Romney/anti-Romney is ready for "prime time."

If by "prime time" you mean hell or lots more time with his family, why, then, yes, he is.

The drive-by media has some bumper riders whose minds aren't quite right--they, like Tammy, don't know if they want their kicks or their principles.

Hey, I'm not judging.

Okay, well, maybe, but only because you yourself say you're nervous on dates, Girlfriend.

Hey, somebody might actually find out who you are.

Where I’m torn on this whole thing is the fact that Clinton and Ted Kennedy do whatever they want and no one cares. But if Herman is the same way, it is time to toss him out. Terrible double standard by the mainstream media.

Yet at the same time, I don’t really want to condone what Cain might have done here if these allegations are true. I do like the fact that we have higher standards for our candidates.

I like a lot of Herman’s positions on things. Probably better than anyone else in the field. But I’ve had a hard time warming up to the guy on a personal level. And in politics and in life, this stuff tends to stick to most people, save for really charismatic guys like a Clinton. I just get this feeling that this will stick to Cain. I don’t think he’s got the type of magnetic personality that can overcome this with a large portion of the electorate.

Newt Gingrich is a joke.

1) Three marriages (1st one ended because of an affair with future wife #2, 2nd one ended because of an affair with future wife #3, 3rd one... Well... given his track record, it will probably end with an affair with future wife #4).

2) Is a peddler of the AGW scam.

3)Dede Scozzafava... ‘Nuff said.

Cheers

I am in great sympathy for Herman Cain. I saw the same tactics used against Clarance Thomas. If Herman Cain is the nominee, I will be thrilled.

This test of Herman Cain’s ability to withstand a hit job will be a good test for him. The experience will come in handy later.

I hope I am not the only one to think of it, but there is another matter that needs to be resolved. Who was it that leaked the information about Cain’s harassment? I suspect it was someone inside the Romney campaign. If it is true and if the allegations are baseless, there will be hell to pay with the Romney campaign. This story is not over yet, and it has the potential of Cain being able to twist the tables on the Romney campaign and do real harm.

Check out this article. One of Cain’s accusers “thinks” he is lying:
