DES MOINES, Iowa - Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann is telling college students in politically important Iowa that all Americans should pay taxes since they all benefit from services such as roads and bridges, national defense and the courts. Her position, which she was outlining today at Iowa State University in Ames, is a direct challenge to rivals Rick Perry and Herman Cain, who are advocating plans that would allow low-wage earners to continue paying no taxes while implementing a form of a flat tax on all other workers. The Tax Policy Center estimates that some 46 percent of households this year will not pay federal income taxes.

I understand what she's saying. And I assure you I already pay a goodly amount in income taxes. And while I would be highly likely to support a candidate who promised to lower my taxes I'd be very unlikely to vote for someone who promised to raise them. Why should I expect anyone else to be any different?
I don't disagree that the current system is broken and needs to be replaced. But I thought the point was to win the election so we could actually do that. So how will promising to raise most people's taxes accomplish that?
spread the base and lower the rates...nobody rides for free.
If you want to win the election stop belittling all of Obuttface’s opponents. Keep in mind some common tactics used by the demrats—bo, his allies, soros, and the old media will smear-job every one of his opponents to split the opposition. The old media (his mouthpiece), hollywood, the parasites, unions, homos, anti-americans, and the muzzies will all vote bo no matter what. A minor split in the opposition hands bo the election. It’s pretty simple.
Good comment about spreading the base. Again, Bachmann said nothing about raising taxes on taxpayers—initiating taxes on the parasites is what she said. Bachmann is light years brighter than the organizer of community illiterates.
“Your snide remarks are misdirected.”
My remarks were accurate and truthful. Two things that Mrs. Bachmann has problems with.
Calling for EVERYONE to pay something does not make her a liberal, it makes her (for once) right.
A point-of-sale tax means the feds now have reason to observe, monitor, AND ADJUST _every_ purchase. You swipe your credit card, and already-available Orwellian technology kicks in. Cash aside (and it’s illegal where, Missouri? how long ‘til cash is eliminated by status quo and/or law?), any identifying factor can be used by the gov’t to do all kinds of outrages.
Sure, buy a $1.25 bottle of Coke. Within seconds, the federal computers get busy:
- a non-WIC food item is taxed more
- an “unhealthy” item is taxed even more
- your tax bracket is identified and the sales tax increased accordingly
- your ObamaCare file is checked to find you’re a borderline diabetic, so a discouraging surcharge is added, and a red flag added to your file
- product purchase history indicates you over-consume the product, further flagging your medical file and increasing tax to discourage you
- various “wanted” lists are consulted (hey, why not) to check if you’re presumed guilty of something
- purchase patterns are recorded and evaluated; deviations are investigated, perhaps notifying nearby police for immediate in-person review.
Careful what you wish for.
You might get it.
Well next to telling people that your going to raise their taxes, telling some guy trying to support a wife and a couple of kids on the median family income that he's a parasite has got to be nearly as bad a slogan to run on. I hope for her sake that you're not on her campaign strategy team.
She’s not saying anything about doubling or tripling anyone’s taxes.....she’s saying to the FREELOADERS to pay SOMETHING! Just guessing that you don’t pay any now.....but you SHOULD.....EVERYONE SHOULD.

If you are sucking on the system that makes one a parasite. Sometimes truthful statements absent the sugar coating are painful, particularly when it gets personal. The parties are largely widely divided because we now have 50% not making a contribution and receiving the bennies (ie parasites) and the taxpayer paying his share and theirs.
If because of the deductions and credits currently available to the average family making the median income means that they don't pay income tax, then any increase Bachmann pushes for will be an increase, possibly a doubling or tripling. And calling an average family making the median income 'freeloaders' is also not a good way to get them to back your candidate.
Just guessing that you dont pay any now.....
I wish. As it is I pay far more than I'd like to in income taxes.
...but you SHOULD.....EVERYONE SHOULD.
I'm not arguing that they shouldn't. I'm just pointing out that running on a promise to raise most people's income taxes is not a strategy that will likely lead to victory.
If I'm out there busting my hump trying to provide for my wife and kids on the median family income then I doubt I feel much like a parasite. I guess it all depends on ones point of view.
I agree!
Everyone pays, or nobody pays!
No, all you have do is a pay your fair share.
That's what Obama says when he talks about raising taxes on those with the highest incomes.
We are not on the same page. The rich already pay their share—why should they pay more for the same services? Maybe we should pay $5/gal of milk and those bad old people with more than we got should pay $1000/liter. You need to swallow your envy kid—it is a virtue only to a prog. The reason we have this mess is the parasites who pay nothing. I am beginning to think of you as the FR obamamite.
