Herman Cain's Foreign Policy Muddle (Sadly devoid of the most basic knowledge of foreign policy)
American Thinker ^ | 11/03/2011 | Lauri Regan

Posted on 11/03/2011 6:49:14 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Many Herman Cain supporters view the upcoming election through a narrow prism focused on repairing the economy, and they believe that the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza is just the man to accomplish that feat. Ironically, these are many of the same people who criticized the electorate for voting for a man whose only real job was community organizing and whose resume could fit on the back of a postage stamp.

In a recent Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, 61% of respondents said they approve of the way that President Obama is handling the war on terror. This is not surprising given the fact that three of the world's most dangerous madmen -- Osama bin Laden, Anwar al-Awlaki, and Muammar Gaddafi -- were all killed on Obama's watch. What is surprising about the poll is that only 6% of the respondents thought that national security and the war on terror should be Washington's top priority.

Yes, we are facing a global economic crisis in which more and more Americans join the ranks of the unemployed and food stamp recipients every day. Sure, the economy should be a top voting issue in the upcoming presidential election. And ridding the country and the world of President Barack Obama should be our number one priority so that the big government regulation, interference, and uncertainty debilitating American innovation and free enterprise are reversed as soon as possible. But that does not mean that repairing the damage to the economy wrought by the Obama administration should be the only voting issue in 2012.

And Obama knows nothing about foreign policy or even how many states there are.

I would vote for Cain over Obama in a fraction of a heartbeat, but that doesn't meant that can is the best of this field.

TRUE, but is that a good reason to vote for someone as ignorant of foreign policy?

Is going from bad to less bad what we should aim for?

Isn’t the Secretary of Defense the only Republican in Obama’s cabinet? Even Obama has to accede to the experts.

Obama’s supporters didn’t make a mistake. They liked what he had to say about Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, and meeting with the leader of Iran. Jewish Americans always vote Democrat, so they believed that Obama would be good to Israel. Cain isn’t devoid of the most basic knowledge. On one issue he made a mistake when speaking. There isn’t evidence that Cain wants to hurt America’s dominance around the world.

It’s a boondoggle. There’s no way a conquest of Afghanistan can be mounted. The best that can be hoped is to keep scraping the tip off of the terrorism iceberg there. Maybe that makes it worth it. I don’t have enough vision into the situation to say.

Wait, so you think we should vote for Cain because he's black and you believe this will avert a race war? Seriously?

That is a pretty pathetic reason to support Cain.

And if you believe Herman Cain is going to have black support you are kidding yourself. We've seen this play out time and time again, Republican black candidates do AWFUL in the black community. Obama will get 95% of the black vote no matter what the skin color of our candidate.

I will say that I, like a number of others I’m sure who heard it, was taken aback when during an appearance on Fox Sunday with Chris Wallace (late spring time frame?)...Herman Cain seemed completely unaware as to what the “right of return” controversy between Israel and the Palistinians was all about. That certainly did give me pause for concern about the depth (or lack thereof) of Herman’s general basic knowledge and understanding of foreign affairs.

Like the Obamaloon collection O’Clowns knows anything about foreign policy.

Like the State Department knows anything about foreign policy.

We’re not talkin’ about mental giants in that area of government. Get real. If the State Department morons were just a but closer to cretin level, they would be swept up to join the West Wing.

Is going from bad to less bad what we should aim for?

"Bad" and "Less Bad" were the only options Bush ever had in foreign policy.

Let the sanctions expire on Saddam so he could restart WMD's or invade and depose.

Let the Taliban mock us and protect bin laden, or invade the graveyard of empires.

On and on. Best of the worst is the mainstay of international relations.

I actually read the whole article - Folks should try that more.

I wonder if this upcoming Gingrich / Cain debate will highlight the dreadful lack of knowledge that the article well and fairly documents.

I wonder if that debate is a precursor to Cain dropping out and endorsing Newt.

“...Or Cain and race nullified in the campaign.”

I don't agree. If Cain HIMSELF doesn't think of it that way and doesn't campaign with THAT kind of spin on his rhetoric, voters don't have a right to do so either.

We have to maintain good faith with the candidate based on how HE (ANY candidate) presents himself.

“O” was represented AS (and represented HIMSELF as) a divisive, racist demagogue and radical populist possessing only a cursory grasp of the American political process.... THAT is what voters accepted and THAT IS what we got!!
