Gingrich Faults Media on Cain Harassment Claims (Newt Goes to Bat for Herman)

ATLANTA (AP) - Republican candidate Newt Gingrich is decrying media coverage of the sexual harassment claims against rival Herman Cain and says that Cain's tax plans deserve more attention.

Gingrich has told WSB radio in Atlanta on Wednesday that he thinks it's "disgusting" that the news media has started what Gingrich described as a "witch hunt" against Cain. It was revealed this week that Cain's former employer, the National Restaurant Association, settled in the 1990s with two women who claimed that Cain had sexually harassed them.

A third woman has told The Associated Press that she considered filing a sexual harassment complaint but never did.

Gingrich says Cain is trying to help a country that's in trouble and has gotten more coverage for what Gingrich termed gossip than for Cain's tax policies.

Newt’s not stupid, and he’s got to know the quickest way to blow any chances he has to get anywhere in this race would be to pile on.

Defending Cain raises his profile among the field, and it’s a win/win proposition.

If Cain fades (the way all the other alternatives to Romney have), Newt’s the last viable conservative standing. If Cain hangs on and wins, Newt looks good for VP.

But all that aside, as cynical as I usually am, while I’m sure Newt wants to do what’s best for Newt, I still think he knows slamming BO and the press is a whole lot better than getting in p*ssing contest with the rest of the GOP field. And I wouldn’t be surprised if he really is honked off the way the press has beat up on Cain.

Bachmann, yesterday, said something along the lines, that’s why people need to know their candidates, so they can know what to expect of them..

And then today, she refused to answer questions and said she was staying above the fray... So she hasn’t said one positive word about Cain or in his defense. She can go home right now as far as I am concerned...she wants it too bad.

I’ve said for sometime I can go with Newt or Herman or both in either order on the Ticket. They would destroy Obama and Biden in the Debates.

That is exactly the door this should be nailed to, Mitt Romneys camp. He has more to gain, (he thinks, but he is delusional), anyway it's his spit ball. Romneys religion allows him to lie. Romney is a Clinton redo, he thinks he is entitled and he will stop at nothing to get his way.

Perhaps Anderson went into the Perry camp, with orders to destroy from within, Romney wants Perry out. Pick them off one at a time, no make that two at a time.

This whole thing has the smell of Romney or Obama

In about 2 weeks after Bachman, Sanctorum, even Paul have all spoken up for Herman cain and got praised by the Conservative based for their compassion

FINALLY Romney will put his well manacured finger in the political air and say something as though he is the only one backing Herman Cain...

Until then Willie Mitty will remain silent and snicker to himself...

Gingrich has earned a ton of respect in the last few months. You are right. It won’t be forgotten. If this country is going to bounce back, it will be people like Gingrich and Cain leading the way. Maybe he is just recognizing that the tide is turning, but that puts him far ahead of most Republican politicians.

Ever notice that when slick willie was accused of sexual harrassment and then lied under oath that the left and kept on saying that he never should have been asked about it? Now that its a baseless claim against a Republican, it requires a further look & he should have to address it.

The VP debate alone is worth that.

Newt would neuter Biden.

Yup! I’m starting to think that the complaints from the three “ladies” might turn out to be an exploding cigar for the ‘RATS. Americans have had it with, “he said, she said”. The “ladies” better have some good evidence.

I doubt that moron would do it unless it was moderated by MSNBC and completely attacked Gingrich.

Politico ran a hit piece, plain and simple. Just as Newt says, what amounts to gossip.

They can’t and wont answer the two questions...exactly what did Herman Cain do? GIve us details. They avoid that question, will not answer it, and give vague language in reply.

And, who are the accusers? Annonymous.

Politico should be skewered and decried by all of the candidates and other media. Instead, the MSM picks it up and runs with it, piling on even more annonymity and vague accusations.

It’s sickeneing.

I believe Cain will come through this...stronger, as his poll numbers continue to climb and people donate more money. Good American people are tired of the PC BS and are tired of good people being brought down by these vile leftists and politiciaans out for their own gain.

I believe he should amke one final statement about this and tell people he done answering inuendo because it is never ending, refuse to take any more questions about it, and move on with his campaign talking about the issues.

I know that unless something a LOT more incriminating comes out instead of she said he said, instead of vague accusations, and annonymity...but even then, it will have to be rock solid testimony backed up by credible witnesses with detailed, incriminating facts...I am going to continue to increase my support for Herman Cain.

They are attacking him because they are scared to death of him...and that’s a good thing and exactly what they need to be.

Exactly. Most Americans see through the crap. Time to tell them all to kizz our azzes and they can go to hell if they don’t like it. America is at stake!

Newt fall out of favor with me some time ago. But I am gaining a lot of respect for his intelligence in this campaign. He hasn’t been afraid to call out the media, he’s made great points in the debates and in his thought provoking television appearances. But.....all his baggage and that global warming stunt with Nancy Pelosi still hangs heavy on my mind.

But for sure in the last couple debates Newt and Herman have been the men amongst the boys. I am looking forward to their debate Saturday. It should be incredibly informative and will hopefully serve to get this campaign back on the issues instead of all this Politico nonsense!

Newt would certainly serve Cain well on the ticket and VP. Cains weak point, as we are seeing, is he doesn’t know how to handle the political end of the job. Newt would solve that problem!
