Perry suggests US visa program to let illegal immigrants come and go freely; opposes amnesty
Washington Post ^ | November 3, 2011

Posted on 11/04/2011 7:39:05 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

“You can put a program into place in which these individuals can be identified, and work visas in which they can move back and forth between their countries but not to become United States citizens,” Perry said. “And I think that’s where McCain, that’s where Romney, that’s where even Bush went wrong when they talked about the issue that, ‘we’re going to give amnesty to these individuals,’ and people just said, ‘no, we’re not.’”

Perry didn’t elaborate on what such a visa plan would look like, saying only that authorities need to determine a better way to identify illegal immigrants and make them part of mainstream society. He also said the program would only work if the federal government first does a better job securing America’s borders.

“I disagree with the concept that somehow or another we’re going to pack up 10, to 12, to 15 million people and ship them back to the country of origin. That’s not going to happen,” Perry said. “So realty has to be part of our conversation. And then you need to have a strategy to deal with it. That is what I think we will have, but first you have to secure that border.”

Perry called Washington’s efforts to stop the flow of illegal immigrants “an abject failure” but said that, as president, he could accomplish the task in just a year using the existing fence, more border patrol agents and air surveillance.

Are you finding this information some place or are you just pulling it out of the air?

The border will be sealed.

Then we can begin orderly, safe and sane border crossing.

I like Perry. I have no clue about who released this information about Cain and I frankly do not see that it matters. The only way I could understand Cain being angry about this is if the accusations and payouts never happened. If the NRA did pay to settle complaint(s) against Cain, then he knew he had a potential problem and should have had a plan to deal with the release of this information effectively. Negative information about a candidate is supposed to come out in the vetting process. My problem with the current Cain drama is that his team acts like what I think is an easily predictable event was totally unexpected. All candidates know what is in their own past and if there are any problematic areas, they should be prepared to deal effectively with the release of negative information and mitigate any damage to their candidacy. If his team knew about it and is reacting this way then they are very unprofessional. If Cain never told them about the accusations and settlements then he showed bad judgment to think it would stay buried A couple of months ago a Ron Paul supporter in Austin offered money to anybody with knowledge of Rick Perry having any affairs. If it had turned out that Rick Perry was hiring hookers do you think I should have been angry at Ron Paul for bringing that to light, or disappointed with Perry? I have been reading for months that this will be the dirtiest, most vicious election ever. Obama has a billion dollars to spend and he cannot run on his record of failure. His only hope to win is by making his opponent look dirtier and more corrupt than he is. His whole strategy will be to dig up and make up dirt on his opponent and try to smear him or her to death. Do you think the Obama goons would not have found out about this with that kind of money to spend on opposition research? For all I know, one of his minions is behind this release. I think that it is better that this came out now than if Cain had won the nomination and it came out next October. As I stated, I like Perry and I hope he wins the nomination but in the end I will vote for whoever the nominee is against Obama. I see this as an opportunity for Cain to show everyone how his organization handles adverse developments. I am less than impressed so far.

Rick Perry doesn’t want amnesty, he just wants illegals to come and go freely.

This is just another "Shamnesty" plan.

Perry should be charged with language abuse.

Allowing non-citizens to just come and go at leisure will be popular with America hating muslims too.

It’s like that. They like to clear illegals, but regular americans smeared by official paper lying about them need to be kept on record... you know, the stuff that keeps competition down.

So, now, here we go, this is the slide to Rino land.

Anything else you can think of for me to do?

LOL - you go girl.

I'm against anything that normalizes illegals, but then again, I haven't seen anyone offer up a plan that's more draconian. (I'd like to, though.)

I don't agree with Perry on everything, (I don't agree with any of 'em on everything) but at this point, I can certainly support him.

Most authoritative sources state that the cost of educating and medicating illegals in my state equals it's 30 billion dollar annual deficit. Thats alot of drones.

But my point is regarding the issue in principle - once you make any accommodation for illegals as a practical matter, you've lost the war - its only a matter of time.

He is talking about a variation on the old Bracero program.

The commies/Marxist/progressive/fascist/ DUMS will never agree to this. You watch if Perry as President sent the leg to congress the screaming and yelling (rioting?) by illegals and their enablers in U.S would be deafening.

There is no way the illegals want to go through the process to get the Alien Worker Cards. Unlike FDR, Truman , and Eisenhower, the only way to make it work is close the border and get the illegals out. The only one with the ca hones to take on the establishment over this issue is Perry.

IMO if the truth were know it came from Obama Camp. Heard yesterday that they are focused on running against Romney.

Since Cain is polling ahead of Romney, Cain has to go.

That makes more sense to me than anything else.

Since POLITICO is a leftie site. WHY would the right go to them. NOPE, it had to be the Zero operatives that went to a FRIENDLY website. To bad Cain fell for it, and started attacking a fellow Repub. The zeros are getting a two-fer.

Although ROMNEY is awfully quiet.

Sort of.

But in this case he would legally allow somewhere between 12 million and 30 million illegals to live here. They wouldn't be required to leave after the crops are harvested or the job ends.

The program would grant legal resident status, regardless of what new word-twisting labels are applied to cloak the truth.

This proposed program is amnesty by definition.

No that’s NOT how it works. They received a card for SPECIFIC time frame. If you read my link it explains the process. 6 or 18 months was the limit. anyone overstaying became an illegal. Just like people who overstay their visa no matter what country they come from.

I would back it if it required farmers to pay min wage. THAT would kill the hiring immediately. But if they did agree to that, the income tax deductions would become mandatory. HE HE

It has it’s up side. But again it has to have a sealed border to work.

I share the same suspicions. This incident seems to me like good practice for what the ‘rats plan to do later in the election cycle.

Yeah. You’re a real hoot.

Your candidate must be proud of your tactics.

Most likely, you learned them from your candidate.
