Perry suggests US visa program to let illegal immigrants come and go freely; opposes amnesty
Washington Post ^ | November 3, 2011

Posted on 11/04/2011 7:39:05 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

“You can put a program into place in which these individuals can be identified, and work visas in which they can move back and forth between their countries but not to become United States citizens,” Perry said. “And I think that’s where McCain, that’s where Romney, that’s where even Bush went wrong when they talked about the issue that, ‘we’re going to give amnesty to these individuals,’ and people just said, ‘no, we’re not.’”

Perry didn’t elaborate on what such a visa plan would look like, saying only that authorities need to determine a better way to identify illegal immigrants and make them part of mainstream society. He also said the program would only work if the federal government first does a better job securing America’s borders.

“I disagree with the concept that somehow or another we’re going to pack up 10, to 12, to 15 million people and ship them back to the country of origin. That’s not going to happen,” Perry said. “So realty has to be part of our conversation. And then you need to have a strategy to deal with it. That is what I think we will have, but first you have to secure that border.”

Perry called Washington’s efforts to stop the flow of illegal immigrants “an abject failure” but said that, as president, he could accomplish the task in just a year using the existing fence, more border patrol agents and air surveillance.

Your sexist comment is pathetic. Worse, your claim that Cain wants to electrocute the illegals. It is not his plan. He rattled it off as one option (shoot from the hip) when asked. Then, backed down and claimed it was a joke.

So, NO your candidate’s plan is not to kill the illegals.

Bigotpulpit is in no position to assert that anyone else on any thread is part of an "ad hominem crowd."

Someone who claims to want 'open honest debate' doesn't fire off two or three insults to the opposition in their opening post.

And if they must for cryin out loud don't whine about ad hominems afterwards.

Bigot, you go calling other people racists with no evidence, and indeed with no clue who they are and you are about to find your post copied and people pinged to it on every thread.

Bravado isn't going to help you here.

Your Al Sharptonesque blanket racist accusation hail Mary isn't going unchallenged, bigot.

Is this a Mexicans only deal for Perry? Or will illegal aliens from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Philippines also be allowed to some and go as they please? Allowed to treat America as a suburb of Karachi, Manila or Beijing

This statement by Perry is deliberate self sabotage or he is a moron

I appreciate your advocacy, but I disagree with much of what Perry proposes here. We need a far more muscular approach to the problem.

Maybe if you lived where I do you'd better understand why. We are headed for some very tough times.

Skeeter, I think that the POV of securing the border first, to the point that our country is comfortable having the convo would be part of the “enforce the laws” piece of this conversation.

But the “securing” part is a moving target, don’t ya know. Obama makes the argument that he is securing the border, and we all know that his idea of secure isn’t the same as yours and mine.

I think we have to put on the table that the liberals are the ones that want more illegals with a path to citizenship, and a motor voter registration card, so they’ll keep the libs in power.

So, what’s your definition of securing the border?

There is no sense in argueing with these people..They read what they want it to say and then run with the lies..They do forget one thing though the reader of this site(lerkers) do read the whole article and know what they are doing..That alone gives me comfort..

I have know Rick Perry for many years as my Governor and he is a very honest person and very intelligent..And one thing I would like to clear up Rick and GWB are friends they so not hate one another..Rick was GWB Attorney General.

Which statement? And since you don't like his policy ideas why don't you give us yours so we can compare them with Perry's.

Dude, your tag line.

Do you know what "teabagging" is?

Tea Partyists or Tea Partyers are not "teabaggers."

Anderson Cooper and Barney Frank are teabaggers.

Sadly, that’s true.

But these spittle-flecked hysterics have yet to offer their own solution (well, other than the electrified fence...).

Another important point is that Texas is a place that also has a shortage of educated workers with technical degrees because US colleges simply don’t produce enough of them - there are too many OWS types out there majoring in Womyn’s Studeez. There probably are a number of illegals - by no means all Hispanics - who actually have such degrees and should be legalized with a temporary work visa that would enable them to simply work here without necessarily deciding they wanted to be on a citizenship track.

I think the point in general is that the entire immigration system needs a good, careful overhaul so that it gets the US the kind of immigrants it needs and provides a decent (no, there’s nothing wrong with that word) realistic response to the situation. Of course, if our economy keeps on the way it’s going, we probably won’t need any workers for anything...

Concerned too. I think that a fairly draconian screening process would be in order to make sure we’re not importing terrorists into the country is already in order.

As for other cultures, I am not sure what to do with the third world issue. I mean, really, they are pro-creating at a much faster rate than us white folks.

So, the question is, do we “celebrate diversity” as part of the “fix immigration” program, or so we turtle shell into our gated communities. I don’t know.

What to do.

But I do want only people who are self supporting and without a criminal record to be allowed in. this puts me diametrically opposed to Rick Perry.

How do you figure that?
