Perry suggests US visa program to let illegal immigrants come and go freely; opposes amnesty
Washington Post ^ | November 3, 2011

Posted on 11/04/2011 7:39:05 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

“You can put a program into place in which these individuals can be identified, and work visas in which they can move back and forth between their countries but not to become United States citizens,” Perry said. “And I think that’s where McCain, that’s where Romney, that’s where even Bush went wrong when they talked about the issue that, ‘we’re going to give amnesty to these individuals,’ and people just said, ‘no, we’re not.’”

Perry didn’t elaborate on what such a visa plan would look like, saying only that authorities need to determine a better way to identify illegal immigrants and make them part of mainstream society. He also said the program would only work if the federal government first does a better job securing America’s borders.

“I disagree with the concept that somehow or another we’re going to pack up 10, to 12, to 15 million people and ship them back to the country of origin. That’s not going to happen,” Perry said. “So realty has to be part of our conversation. And then you need to have a strategy to deal with it. That is what I think we will have, but first you have to secure that border.”

Perry called Washington’s efforts to stop the flow of illegal immigrants “an abject failure” but said that, as president, he could accomplish the task in just a year using the existing fence, more border patrol agents and air surveillance.

I have know Rick Perry for many years as my Governor and he is a very honest person and very intelligent.

I don't know about intelligent, but you certainly can add brave to the list.

Not many candidates are brave enough to follow the Walter Mondale model for open and honest disclosure on controversial positions.

So, what’s your definition of securing the border?

My definition is the literal one.

It means stopping unauthorized entry wherever physically possible on the border proper. It means inland enforcement including against employers who knowingly employ illegals. It means removing any and all governmental incentives encouraging illegal entry. It means discouraging states from offering incentives that make federal enforcement of immigration laws more difficult.

I will never compromise my POV on this issue, because I believe anything less will eventually have lethal consequences for our way of life.

I realize this definition isn't nuanced or accommodating enough for the squishes, but that's too bad.

Where were you on Monday when I was dragging a feral pig through the woods for about a mile?

You call people names(racists and nativist, what ever the hell that is) and when someone responds in kind you say they don't want an honest discussion when you are the one who started the name calling to begin with. Talk about hypocrites, you qualify as a lilberal with your BS.

BTW, wanting to stop illegal immigration isn't the same as wanting to stop LEGAL(see the difference)immigration. If they are here illegally they are not immigrants, but criminals looking to steal whatever they can from the American people in the form of handouts. MrEdd was correct, you are a bigotpulpit.

It could happen, Rick. Here’s my solution. $900 fine for each illegal alien a company is found to employ. From that $900, $300 paid to whomever provided the info. $300 to the gov to run the program. $300 for one way airfare out of the country.

A comment so totally unexpected, that it is music to my ears. LOL.

I did catch a greased pig (little pink piglet) once back in college (a silly contest but I claimed the honor).

I can go with your definition. Now, the next question is how do you measure it? And at what cost-benefit ratio do we work towards this definition? (Cost of enforcement vs. # of illegals still getting through).

There needs to be a federal law prohibiting sanctuary cities, among other “favorable to illegal immigration” things.

Next question is, how far do we go with E-Verify? There are some Constitutional objections to it being the stepping stone to a national ID card. And people are wary of that.

So, NO your candidate’s plan is not to kill the illegals.

I'm assuming his candidate is Cain. from what I can tell, Cain's plan is to ignore the issue and hope that no one asks about it.

Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 - Wikipedia, the free

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_and_Nationality_Act_of_1965

Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 (Hart-Celler Act, INS, Act of 1965, Pub.L. 89-236) abolished the National Origins Formula that had been in place in the ...

Since the 1965 Immigration Act our immigration policies have been heavily tilted to 3rd world immigrants. My estimate is 90% of all immigrants (legal and illegal) are are from the 3rd world. I would reverse this and  make a European only immigration policy for the next 20 years. No one else comes in and the Mexican border is slammed shut
European people built this country with subsidiary help from blacks. Indians did their own thing and Hispanic numbers were very low

I agree with his rhetoric - about being against amnesty, about his support of Arizona's law. I'm not from Texas, so if there is something he;'s done specifically to stem the flow I'd like to hear about it.

However, I disagree with all of his positions on illegals and education. I disagree with the premise that illegals need to be made into productive members of society. This tantamount to surrender and undermines all his tough talk, IMO.

Frankly, I feel like I'm being swindled when I hear this kind of talk.

Perry is exhibiting the common trait of those who have destroyed our society...a believer that if you can’t enforce the law, you simply make the offense legal and that particular crime statistic simply vanishes.

Besides being extremely naive in believing that these Mexicans are going to obey any type of law or social rules and honor their commitment to return to Mexico is absolutely laughable!

Find me a Mexican who obeys the law and I will identify him as an American. Find me one who won’t and I will show you a Mexican imported by the likes of Perry.

I once was a staunch supporter of Perry but he keeps on digging the hole deeper in regards to his love of illegals already in the United States. I have washed my hands of him.

I’d go with E-Verify for government services —including K-12 schools —, but for some strange reason our federal political leaders never bring that up.

Well, with that list of accomplishments you wrote down for the week, I figured one more wouldn’t hurt. Besides, everbody’s getting a little pissy, so a little humor is good. I think that I still have some sore muscles after that excercise with the pig.

But I do want only people who are self supporting and without a criminal record to be allowed in. this puts me diametrically opposed to Rick Perry.

Oh yeah...thanks for reminding me of the debate where Perry said he hoped a lot od mexican killers would come across the border because he wanted more troops for La Raza. Yeah...I almost forgot about that. Idiot.
