Predictably, with the November 23rd deadline for bipartisan deficit reduction fast approaching, Congressional leadership is scrambling to spur the "super committee" into action to prevent the automatic $1.5 trillion/next decade cuts from going into effect. Despite the obvious reasons for which the super committee should be super transparent, these meetings are taking place behind closed doors.
Congressional leaders are trying to reverse the deadlock that has befallen the deficit "super committee" in much the same way the panel has operated: behind closed doors.
The logjam is a familiar one that has doomed past budget battles. Republicans refuse to raise taxes to reduce deficits and Democrats are unwilling to carve deeply into Medicare and other entitlements unless the GOP gives on revenues.
Most of the scramble in recent days appeared to be coming from the Republican side, where House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) have holed up with Republican super committee members in the Capitol.
Democrats insist that they have put a fair offer on the table, proposing tax increases but also sizable reductions to Medicare, Medicaid and other programs — potential cuts that have drawn criticism from the party's liberal base. The ball, Democrats say, is in the GOP court.
Groan. I'm going to go ahead and go on record as agreeing with Newt Gingrich on this one:
Newt Gingrich: Super Committee Is Washington's Dumbest Idea
November 23rd may be the deadline, but will not take effect until 2013 , Hmmmmm, 2013 will be a good year for things taking effect , how many is that now
Except to keep that can in motion down the road.
You don’t have to be a Gingrich to know this was the dumbest deal ever.
Dat Band ought’a disband before they hurt us.
Invest in GUILLOTINES. The only thing that is going to get their attention.
This is hilarious. They are trying to save the “supercommittee” which is tasked with balancing the budget in order to prevent spending reductions from kicking in.
Only in Bizarro World Wash DC. Peace is war; up is down; 2+2=5.
Pubs always cave. Why now??/ The Dems have had no budget for 921 days. Why do we have to have an answer now so the Bama gets the credit for ....bankrupting the USA? This is an absurd condition to put a Legislature in . The Prez does not lead but ruins America and then blames the opposition to this economic foul ups. Yikes.
if they can’t come up with something they’ll need a super duper jumbo committee
I think a Super Committee of about one million Americans is needed to convene on the Congress.
Occupy Capitol Hill-—yeah, that’s the ticket.
Why, we’ll even have Obama’s support. Won’t we? /s

I think the problem is that the majority of the Republicans in Washington DC worship the Big Government state, as much as the Democrats. The Republicans will say the 'right' words to appease the little people back home -- but they'll make sure the budget continues to increase, and Government continues to grow.
That's why if we get a competent 'outsider' into the White House, like Mr. Cain or a Mrs. Palin, they'd have a heckuva job cut out for them. Not only will both Parties fight their election (which the Media will oppose as well) - even if they do get elected (and I'm rooting for Mr. Cain right now), they'll be opposed at every attempt to reduce the size and control of Government. Prayers for their success -- because Big Government never ends well for the people...
The affects taking place any time after Feb 1, 2013. That will give the survivors of the 2012 election cycle 20 to 22 months to come up with another excuse as to why they should be reelected. After all, they were only following the recommendations (aka “ORDERS”) of the Super Committee, weren't they?
This so-called “super committee” seems unconstitutional. They are all fools.
In a word, 'YES!'
The super committee is just wrong. We should have never needed a super anything to fake act the huge ponzi schemes in DC in the first place.
