Who is Jerry Sandusky?
Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 11/06/2011 | Bill Lyon

So what manner of a man is this Jerry Sandusky?

On Nov. 13, 1999, he received a standing ovation from a crowd of 96,480. It was the occasion of his official retirement as dean of Linebacker U's impenetrable defense. For a long, long time, he was thought to be the successor to Joe Paterno. When he finally decided to leave the fold, after 32 years of unswerving loyalty and uncommon patience, --snip-- It has been over 10 years since Sandusky left Penn State to devote all of his time to the Second Mile, a charitable organization he and his wife started in 1977 as a sanctuary, a safe house, for children at risk.

It is a noble undertaking, and it has grown and grown, and it is estimated that it reaches 100,000 kids a year. The name comes from the Sermon on the Mount - "And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile."

blah blah.. if he’s a child molester he should be hanged. Recounting “good deeds” he has done is pointless.

I don’t need to ask advice from any mortal, fallible being. I think child molesters should be removed from civilization permanently.

I read the grand jury report.

All they boys he is reported to have raped were in their second year at the camp before he approached them sexually.

He was in the process of raping a young boy in the showers when an assistance walked in on them. I stopped reading when I got to the fourth victim.

Disgusting. No way this creep just got started and no way others didn’t know about it. They should pay as well.

the grad student that reported the 2002 event became an assistent coach under Paterno. He knew. Paterno knew. The AD knew. The VP of Finance and Business (now retired knew). President Spanier knew. The workers at Second Mile knew. Public school coaches knew. Friends knew. Did his wife know?

What really upsets me is the 28 year olf PSU grad assistant..( who played for Paterno and Sandusky) who TESTIFIED that he witnessed Sandusky ANALLY RAPING a ten year old in the shower. He was so upset, he called his dad, who told him to leave the university, go home, and to call JoePa the next day.

How could the guy just leave the kid there to continue getting raped..sorry, I can't buy it..he shodl have gone intot he shower, pulled the kid out, and beat Sandusky's head against the wall..

I think they are only scratching the surface of the “Second Mile” victims.

JoePa is going down for this.....while he did report it to the AD, he was in a position to do a lot more to prevent further incidents from happening......there is no way now he can possibly return next season.

There’s another overnight youth football camp, too.

First reported in 1998...there are a lot of people who need to be held accountable for this. This monster has destroyed countless lives for his own sick gratification and should receive the death penalty.

But all those that stood by and let it happen need to spend time in prison as if they personally molested those young boys themselves. They were willing accomplices.

Sheeeesh...I'm about to blow a gasket. I can't even think straight I'm so F’n angry.

If I read the timeline right, didn’t he report it ten years ago? If so, didn’t he wonder why nothing was done? As a college head coach, he has to keep track of hundreds of things at once. I doubt he just forgot about it.

If the charges are true - and apparently they have been made by multiple victims over many years - Sandusky obviously did not start this organization as a sanctuary or a safe house for children at risk. He started it as a way to get access to vulnerable boys away from their parents so he could rape them.

The news story here is the coverup and how long the Penn State “machine” kept it in operation.

Has anyone else noticed that the terms “gay” and/or “homosexual” are never mentioned whenever this story is written about?

As an aside....

I’m no PSU fan. I take every opportunity with my wife’s family to poke holes in their PSU arrogance. (That’s a lof of opportunities, her Dad is from Johnstown and her Mom is form outside of Clearfield) However, I saw a “We are Penn State” commercial on television today and it made me sick and not in a fun “JoePa pooped on the field” kind of way.

Back in 1999 Paterno informed Sandusky that he would NOT be the next coach because Sandusky was spending an enormous amount of time on his ‘Second Mile’ charity at the expense of the football program. “You can’t have two masters,” Paterno told Sandusky. So Sandusky decided to retire.

Now we may be finding out why Sandusky liked his ‘Second Mile’ charity for kids so much.
He liked the kids. He really liked them.

Don't be a moron. Paterno immediately informed the proper authorities at Penn State after he was told by an assistant that he had witnessed inappropriate behavior by Sandusky in a locker room. That was in 2002, three years AFTER Sandusky had retired and was no longer involved in the football program. Paterno knew of nothing else regarding Sandusky's behavior except for that one allegation.

But don’t you think based on the seriousness of the charge, and the overwhelming presence Paterno has in the athletic department, that he should have done more? Didn’t he wonder why nothing was ever done after he told the AD?
