Reporting from Mesa, Ariz.
The strain of conservatism that propelled Arizona lawmaker Russell Pearce to a powerful perch in state politics could also prove to be his downfall.
Pearce, president of the state Senate, will face off Tuesday against fellow Republican Jerry Lewis in a recall election in their suburban Phoenix district.
The election is the culmination of a nearly yearlong effort to oust the controversial Pearce, arguably the state's most powerful politician. Supporters champion his gruff, unwavering commitment to conservative ideals, while critics call him a bully whose tactics are divisive.

RINOs ousting a conservative.
So much for party loyalty.
The MSM is jubilant!
Disgusting, isn’t it?
Yeah... they want to get rid of him because he’s “too divisive.”
It sounds familiar, alright.
Leftists, whether Dem or Pubbie, are always at war with conservatives and anyone else who disagrees with them.
This is the first skirmish of the pending battle within the Republican Party. Do we stand for something or are Republicans to be the panty waisted, weak wristed compromisers that helped get us to where we are today?
“RINOs ousting a conservative.”
Hold your horses, pard. The election hasn’t started yet. Lest we forget, consider the source. Don’t be a tool by declaring a win before the game.
We use the LAT here in L.A. to line the bottoms of our garbage bags to absorb the liquid crap. Why do you believe this garbage?
The dems will take advantage of the idea that they can defeat conservatism by defeating Russell Pierce, but actually he had a couple of scandals - he took tickets from the Fiesta Bowl Committee and didn’t pay for them (which was illegal) and his campaign team found a third-party candidate to run, and funded her “campaign.” All of this is SOP for dems, but not for Republicans. Not that it’s right, but Pierce is in one of the most conservative districts in Arizona. Conservatism is not on the ballot, regardless of what the LA Times says.
I received a report from a friend about a meeting with that Jerry Lewis with a Republican Legislative District. It did not go well, to say the least. People in the know say it’s going to be close, but Pearce will pull it out. Hang tight and pray.
If Russell is ousted, this will be the MO for the Dems for the next decade. They are already threatening to recall the Rep. State Senators who voted to kick the Chairman of the Redistricting Committee out. Do you believe that she’s using OUR money to launch her legal defense?
Jerry Lewis???? I thought he was my RINO congressman here in CA.
They want war, give it to them.
PS - give $$$ to Russ. I just donated another 50.
One event, in particular, on July 2, 1977, defines Pearce and his time with the Sheriffs Office. While patrolling in Guadalupe, Pearce spotted three teenage gang members carrying what appeared to be beer and after confronting them, the teenagers were uncooperative and one of them instructed his Doberman to attack Pearce. While struggling with the dog and one of the teenage subjects, the dogs owner, another teenager, seized Pearces .357 Magnum. Pearce smacked the dog with his flashlight and let get of the one teenager and grabbed for the gun, as the teenager aimed and shot. The bullet dismembered Pearces right ring finger before it slammed into his chest. Pearce was not wearing a protective vest. Despite his life-threatening wound, he continued his efforts and was able to wrestle one of the teenagers into his squad car. While calling for backup, Pearce realized the severity of his wounds, yet continued pursuing the other two teenagers who were still in possession of his gun. For his work, dedication and consistent demonstration of bravery in this and other related events, Pearce received the Medal of Valor, the highest award given in law enforcement for exceptional bravery. (Note: Senator Pearce has two sons in law enforcement, both highly decorated, Sean with Maricopa County Sheriffs Office, and Colten with Gilbert Police Department. Sean was critically wounded in a gun battle with an illegal alien, while servicing a homicide warrant.) Senator Pearce and his son Sean are the only father and son in Arizona to both have received the Medal of Valor.
Thanks South40.
Oops. I believe it’s 7 of 9. My bad.
“Strain” as in disease, controversial, divisive, bully...I think these scum lay out their weasel words first and then load their copy with them.
Arizona has a long history of throwing any true conservative out. Evan Mecham and Fife Symington were thrown on the garbage heap. Both were conservatives fighting the establishment. The McCain’s and Kyl’s thrive.
It’s a disgraceful place.
Regardless of how the race is going, we still need to support this man.
I've posted a link that has a list of polling places for people living in LD 18.
