NEWPORT BEACH – A life-size statue of Ronald Reagan was damaged during an attempted theft from a memorial at Bonita Canyon Sports Park early Sunday, police said.
The bronze statue was found by authorities at about 5:30 a.m., broken off its foundation and tilted forward with other damage, after thieves apparently tied a chain around it and tried to pull it away using a pickup truck or other vehicle, police said.

It’s a hate-filled act of vandalism.
If they were stealing it for scrap, they would surely have to cut it up to melt it.
If they could cut...they would have cut the statue off at the base.

It was a bunch of illegals looking for scrap. They probably pulled their bumper off trying to steal this and had to flee. Mexicans run the scrap-theiving business in California.
It’d be smarter to pull down the V.I. Lenin statue in the Fremont district of Seattle and drop him off the Aurora Ave. N. bridge into Lake Union.
The place that melts it down probably has the heavy tools that could cut it, but not the thieves on the street themselves.

I think the possibility of anybody trying to steal this statue (which was only put up a month ago) for scrap is pretty remote. Even a bunch of illegals in an old beater would recognize that they would have a hard time selling it whole and probably couldn’t cut it up themselves.
This screams leftist vandalism to me. The statue probably got a lot of publicity when it was put up and this was their revenge.

The war on coservatism goes hand and with the removal of Christians symbols. Symbols define who we are as a nation.
From the picture it appears they attempted to get Reagan to lean to the left! Like that would ever happen!
Maybe the scrap kings should go after the statue of Lenin in Seattle.

You just know this was done by a bunch of lefty OWS types.
Except that other statues have also been stolen, and at least one was recovered at a scrapyard.
I remember when Hans Christian Anderson’s Little Mermaid statue had her head sawed off about 50 years ago.
