A mother and her two daughters, all former Girl Scouts who say they are disillusioned with the organizations connection to less-than family values, claim the U.S. groups 52nd National Convention next week in Houston is a farce.
Christy Volanski and her daughters, Sydney and Tess, formed a sort of watchdog group earlier this year with their online site, Speak Now: Girl Scouts, as their platform in attempt to expose the groups pro-abortion stance.
Volanski, who also served as a Girl Scout leader in the last three years of her daughters eight year membership, told The Christian Post that Girl Scouts of the USA does not attempt to present a balanced viewpoint when it comes to issues of abortion, sexuality, and marriage.
For the last several conventions they have promoted this same type of ultra-feminist, abortion rights activists, and pro-homosexual speakers, said Volanski, who resides in Houston. There are many speakers that we consider problematic for pro-life families bringing their daughters to this event.
Speakers at the convention, planned for Nov. 8 - 13, include Houston Mayor Annise Parker, who lives with her same-sex partner Kathy Hubbard, campaign treasurer for Planned Parenthood. Parkers upcoming bid for re-election as Houston Mayor is endorsed by Planned Parenthood, according to plannedparenthoodfacts.org.
The most troubling part to me is that Girl Scouts claim that they dont take a stand on issues like abortion, contraception, girls sexuality, yet they promote all these type of speakers and role models for the girls, Volanski said. In addition to that they are sending the girls to websites that promote abortion.
They claim to be somewhat neutral on these issues, but the facts reveal a totally different story, she said. They promote things that we as Christians do not teach.
Earlier this year, a Girl Scouts spokesman denied the allegations. Girl Scouts does not take a position on abortion or birth control. The national umbrella organization, Girl Scouts of the USA does not have a relationship with Planned Parenthood on a national level and does not plan to have one, the spokesman said.
However, Volanski said she views the upcoming convention and the group itself as being unbalanced morally and ethically.
Theres no attempt to balance at all. Theres no one to represent the pro-life movement. Theres no one to represent the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman, she said. Im concerned about what girls are going to be exposed to at the convention.
Volanski is not deterred by the way the Girl Scouts portrays itself to the public.
We have a whole group of concerned families around the United States that are keeping an eye on the Girl Scouts. Most of them are former Girl scouts or Girl Scouts leaders, she said.
Membership in the Girl Scouts of USA may be dwindling. The faith-based American Heritage Girls reports that 40 percent of its membership are former Girl Scouts, Volanski said.
My two God-daughters were pulled out toot sweet, when I first read about this a year ago on FR.
It’s bad enough with the school system, but I’ll be damned if I will pay a RED cent to these people who profress to teach girls about doing the right thing.
This is going to hurt membership and cookie sales. You can’t just murder your customer base and expect to beat next year’s cookie sale record. Anybody knows that, right?
I hear they are offering pit-bull breeding, small engine repair, how to build hers and hers closets in a ‘his and hers’ world, and variations on the she-mullet and next years Girl Scout Jamboree.
GSUSA might be shifting to the Left in part to please the very large donor sources the organization feels it needs to continue to survive nowadays. As in understanding many seemingly inexplicable things, follow the money, especially in non-profits. Product sales help fund troops and Scouting at a more local level, and at a local level Scouting may well still reflect and be responsive to a conservative population which still remembers and practices traditional Girl Scouting in many parts of “flyover country.”
Does anyone have the membership figures for Girl Scouts for the last ten years or so, by the way? The organization certainly does.
The girls are barely there.
They have prostituted themselves for the money they need to survive.
They also don’t take a position on lesbian growth as a Girl Scout
Yes, what a waste of $12 a year to people who profess to teach girls about doing the right thing
Absolutely.
Kinder, Küche, Kirche.
unfortunately we turn girls away and maintain waiting lists of little girls because we do not have enough adults willing to volunteer to lead troops
If membership is dropping it is because there are so many opportunities now for girls in sports etc, that did not exist when GS was in its heyday, and a lot of kids are so overscheduled with sports music dance and enrichment that being part of a GS troop and camping just seems like low priority, God Forbid Little Iodine miss a soccer game to go camping....
and here are some of those damnable liberal sponsors of this year's convention, you might want to boycott Coca Cola, Exxon Mobil, Ford, Justine Magazine. Mutual of Omaha, Kappa Delta OMG
scary leftists

Are you equating well spent pr money from corporations for a convention of potential customers with grant money sought by GSUSA? That seems like a bit of emotionally driven conflation of funding issues.

May God have mercy on you for supporting abortion.

The Girl Scouts "went bad" many years ago, only getting worse. Got taken over by pro-homosexual, pro-abortion ultra leftists. Not your mother's Girl Scouts any more. Run, run away! There are other girl organizations like Campfire Girls that are still good.
I agree with Salvation.
I don’t care about the GS sponsors, I care about the leftist junk they fill girls’ minds with.
I’ve never heard of the camp fire girls, thank you.
MOre and more girls are going to the Campfire Girls to avoid the Girl Scouts which have become nests of perversion. Of course there are no doubt some clubs or whatever they’re called that are okay, but the dang literature they distribute is toxic. Best to totally avoid.
