On Tuesday, recording artist Shakira became the first Colombian to get her name on a monument to the globe's entertainment industry: the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

As the latest celebrity to get a terrazzo star, trimmed with bronze, on the sidewalks of Hollywood, Shakira joins a small but growing rank of minority performers making a dent in an overall industry that some criticize as not inviting enough to African-Americans, Latinos and Asians.

So replace the disproportionate number of gays with these minority groups.

Your crap no longer sells well... music is not music... X-Factor lip syncs... no one sings normally... computers correct all mistakes... keep adding no talent bimbos because of the color of their skin and you will eventually get on obama’s unemployment program like the rest of America.

Huh..???? Reeeaaaally???!!!

I always say, when watching TV (NEVER go to movies), that if aliens came here from another planet and looked at OUR media (TV, magazines, sports, film, radio, etc.) ... they'd never know there were any Caucasians on this planet

I wouldn’t be surprised if Jews are grossly over-represented.

Or any straights either.

If people vote with their pocketbooks that they want to see more African-Americans, Latino’s and Asians, then more will appear.

Hollywoods greatest years are behind them.
Years ago when the big studio’s protected their stars few knew the weakness’s and politics of their favorites. And they didn’t care to.

Today homosexuality, drug use, political BS from people who should stick to the words other people put in their mouths and leave theirs unsaid, are killing the industry.

Personally, there are many white actors who could leave and I wouldn’t even notice.

Maybe Penn, Sarandon, Affleck, Damon, DeNiro and others should retire and let minorities have the starring roles instead of hogging them. I blame them for taking the plum roles.

And stop blaming whitey for everything and put the blame where it belongs: the casting directors, writers, producers and directors who pick the actors for the roles.

Personally, I am upset that actors with Conservative views are discriminated against.

I see the next big change in Hollywood as going back to an older system.

In the 1980s, Cannon Films, Golan-Globus, had a spectacular formula of cranking out low budget, no-name actor movies, many direct to VHS. They figured that if just one in a dozen was a hit, it would pay for the whole dozen, and the next dozen. And they were more than right. They had some of the highest profit margins in the industry.

Simple math. A movie that costs $100m and makes $120m is *less* profitable than a movie that costs $1m and makes $26m.

But this same rule could apply even more so in television.

Right now, television production is limited to a tiny number of shows with the same actors. Very high budget for television.

However, if some studio returned to “golden age” production values, with everyone involved in the production working for scale, they could hire huge numbers of actors, writers, musicians, production people, etc., and produce a tidal wave of content, going directly into syndication.

Lots of vignette shows like the original Twilight Zone, with the idea that lots of people get *some* work, instead of just a few getting all the work, with most getting nothing. At first most of the profits would be plowed back into production, but soon the margins would be huge.

If they adjusted for politics half of the jobs would turn over too.

A movie that makes $120M box office returns less than $70M to the studio.

Interesting. Samuel L. Jackson is Hollywood's biggest all-time earner.

Interesting they use Shakira to illustrate the point. She may have been Hispanic when she began, but she dumped that almost immediately to become just one more Britany Spears clone.

Actually one of the stronger singers at the time, but I lost interest in her when she transformed. I liked her original self.
