Years before Jerry Sandusky was indicted on charges of sexually abusing boys, the former Penn State football coach wrote a book about his life. Over a period of ten years, beginning in 1991, Sandusky worked with former equipment manager and Penn State journalism student Kip Richeal to record what Sandusky called a "unique" life. What they eventually produced, in 2000, was the book "Touched: The Jerry Sandusky Story."

Hopefully he can write his second book soon, “How I was touched in Prison”

I wonder if he was sexually abused as a child and he was “getting even” for that. No excuse, of course, for what he did to all those young boys.

I wish they’d bring back hanging in the town square. Seriously.

Perhaps his victims can write a book entitled “Touched by Jerry Sandusky.”

In my mind, at least, children are by definition not sexual. There is something so evil and depraved about preying on them. So warped.

Seriously, I can’t tell you how revolted I am by all this. I am a PSU alum and this is a dark, dark stain on the school reputation.

Please don’t even float that as an excuse. Lots of folks had rough childhoods and didn’t turn into monsters....

It's more likely that in prison Jerry will be assuming the role of "Big Bubba," meting out real justice to any fraile young man caught running afoul of the law.

Seems like the students are rallying around Paterno, or at least they were last night.

I don’t understand how anyone could see or know of a crime so awful and not go to the police.

I don’t think so - he’s a white collar type bully who preys on young children. A real prison thug will tear him a new one

I know a lot of PSU alum - they are heartbroken and sick over this. It is quite a blow to learn so many covered up something so hideous

I know. We had such a great respect for Paterno in our family. It’s just all so sad.

This could have been stopped years ago if McQueary (an actual witness) had gone to the police instead of to Coach, but the reaction (or lack of) stems, I think, from the same kind of disbelief and instinct to protect the institution as happened with the pedophile priest scandal.

Once each person involved told the next person they felt (hoped) their personal responsibility had ended. But so long as everyone in that chain was more protective of the institution and its image than of some, to them, anonymous kids the abuse would continue. The same kind of denial happens within families. "No, everything's good and my husband/wife/father/mother/sister/brother/uncle didn't do that and/or has promised to stop".

It is a terrible and sad, but in terms of survival quite functional, aspect of human nature that most of us are cowards with the ability to compartmentalize and "forget" that which our minds cannot accept. But that's no excuse for anyone who knew about this and let it go on. Turn coward in battle and your sergeant will shoot you. Knowingly let a pedophile run wild for years damaging dozens of children under your nose and firing from your job is the least of the penalties you should fear.

Well since I’ve been back in Texas for 8 years I don’t even think about my freeper handle being PA - Criminals everywhere so I guess we can’t allow them to taint an entire state.
