You may well be on to something. I read up a bit on this particular case, and the (declared) dead Mr. Gricar apparently used his home computer to search for things like how to destroy a hard drive, etc. Here’s a link to the original story on that aspect of the affair:

http://www.centredaily.com/2009/04/15/1228995/foul-play-theory-weakened.html

He may very well be alive somewhere. Perhaps Slovenia, or somewhere else in Central Europe.

Though he’s been declared legally dead, it’s possible he may have sailed into the sunset somewhere nice.

“Is there any evidence to support that claim. The US legal system works on evidence...not people’s imagination.”

Is there something about posts on an internet message board by anonymous posters that confuses you with the US legal system?

Ray Gricar was not the only one with access to that computer. His live-in girlfriend had access.

It also appears that DA Gricar disappeared just as the statute of limitations expired on the 1998 charges.

I though that I heard that the statute of limitations for child sexual predators had been extended for decades. IIRC it was something that came out of the Catholic Church/priest scandal where adults were coming back many years after the statute of limitations was exceeded.

Detective: Gricar researched how to destroy hard drive (Missing DA)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2229552/pos

BELLEFONTE — Before he disappeared April 15, 2005, former District Attorney Ray Gricar used his home computer to search the Internet for information on “how to wreck a hard drive,” “how to fry a hard drive,” and “water damage to a notebook computer.”

Tuesday, one day before the fourth anniversary of Gricar’s disappearance, Bellefonte Police Det. Matthew Rickard released information that raises the question as to why Gricar might have wanted to destroy that hard drive.

Gricar, who was planning to retire in eight months, went for a drive through Brush Valley, toward Lewisburg, on April 15, 2005, and hasn’t been heard from since.

What was believed to be his county-issued laptop computer hard drive was found in the Susquehanna River six months after he disappeared, separated from the computer itself, which was also found in the river.

Two FBI labs and Kroll Ontrack, a company that was able to recover data from hard drives on board Space Shuttle Columbia after it crashed, both evaluated the hard drive, but both attempts to recover information were unsuccessful.

The water damage from the Susquehanna River was too much. ts

Some people are letting their imaginations run away. I can think of legitimate professional reasons a prosecutor might want to research how hard drives can be destroyed, other than to destroy his own drive. He might be looking at a case involving cyber crime, for example. Also, I can think of ways to utterly destroy a hard drive, like fire or a sledgehammer. Better than throwing it in a river.

A prosecutor (or a cop) makes lots of enemies. Gricar had successfully prosecuted a heroin gang, for example. In Mexico or Italy, prosecutors and judges get killed for stuff like that. In the U.S., the system works hard to protect law enforcement people, which is probably why his disappearance was investigated rather thoroughly, to the point of looking at the contents of his computer.

Yup, it was extended in 2007, but did not extend all cases prior to that.

"But you are overlooking the fact that as DA he handled far more cases than that."

DA's have staff, including the police.

After all, Patrick Fitzgerald had plenty of time to ensnare Scooter.

Bingo, my FRiend.

Years ago, I would have laughed at your opinion. These days, I say you are on the target.

A couple of times in a court room expecting justice was all it took to change my mind. Was it this way for you too?
