Meet The Growing Number Of Americans Who Want To Move Abroad
Business Insider ^ | Nov. 8, 2011, 5:21 PM | Abby Rogers and Gus Lubin

A growing number of Americans is thinking about turning expat, according to a survey by America Wave and Zogby International.

The share of Americans planning to relocate increased to 2.5 percent from 0.8 percent in 2009. If this number describes the entire population, that means around 6 million Americans are planning on leaving the country.

America Wave's Bob Adams (a Business Insider contributor) found that single people, political conservatives and men were more likely to be in this group.

Maybe they should read Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day first.

When you see how many of your acquaintances, friends and relatives are supporting the bums, rapists and the misguided on OWS, and the Obamunists’ class warfare, you want to give up and say that it’s over for this country while you’re waving your flag. Just check out and compare the French reaction to the bombing of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, and the U.S. media’s, which has nothing to lose in the matter and a distance to observe it objectively but can’t. In the public square, Messrs Alinsky and Chomsky (assisted every step by the KGB) have won! (And I’m an optimist.)

I have enjoyed traveling and meeting many foreign nationals. However, I love this country and have no plans to ever leave the US permanently.

If I were forced by circumstances to go anywhere, I would choose rural, Western Canada first. Then, second choice would be rural Australia.

But, I am not going anywhere. If things get that bad, Texas will be the best place to be. We will keep the flame burning until it catches on again elsewhere in the US. If Texas ever becomes like Obama-loving California, then we are done.

It is closer to Český Krumlov than it is to Warsaw.

My daughter and her family moved to Istanbul, Turkey in August. Her husband took a job with Ford of Europe. They really seem to like it. Kids go to the British International school there. Planning on going after Christmas. But of all the places I want to visit, Turkey was not one of them.

I split my time between America and Ireland. I carry both passports.

I was once very ill in Dublin and thought that if I went to the hospital I would surely die on a gurney in a hallway. In my delirium I decided it would be best to just die in my plush hotel room.

I lived.

A friend of mine bought a house in Punta del Este Uruguay about two years ago. Absolutely loves living there. My neighbor’s brother went to Costa Rica about six years ago and has been back once since. With the right government, this is the best country in the world...with socialist decay it becomes painful to live here. A lot of us who grew up in the 50’s and 60’s thinking that way.

I have ot agree with you there. Some say “stay and fight,” but I am beginning to wonder if those who do understand that some people just want to go about their business and have kids, live life, not fight an ever increasing hoard of barbarians that are being bred by the dozen.

Plus we might need quite a few ex-pats in various nations for help if, lets say, there is a need to fight and/or if a set of States secede. If the former happens, we might need materials from countries like Russia and so forth to help us carry on and if the latter, diplomatic recognition and again, materials and help. There was talk that if the Confederacy won Gettysburg, the UK would have either helped the South against the North or at least try to broker a deal between both sides where the Confederacy would still exist.

You can’t own land in Mexico aa a foreigner. What about Belize, Costa Rica, Dominica instead? in Dominica, you can buy a real passport if you have some dough.

I’ve recommended Nha Trang in VN to a number of people. IMHO, it’s far and away the best spot in VN. Dirt cheap too as long as you don’t stay in one of the foreigner owned beach hotels.

For those not familiar with VN, Nha Trang is near (to the North of) the former U.S. base of Cam Ranh Bay - gorgeous beach site.

FWIW, Phnom Penh is also pretty nice, right on the Ton Le Sap river, small and inexpensive.

You make a good point. As the US government becomes more centralized, it also become proportionately more oppressive because of its size. A smaller state has the advantage of having a smaller government. That was the whole point of federalism. Unfortunately the Founders logic has been discarded. We must remember that it is only the great nations are that are transformed into the great monsters. We need only look at France in the 18th century or Russia and Germany in the 20th. But, I guess that I would have to concede the examples of nasty small countries like Cuba, Cambodia, NK.

Man, what in the world is YOUR problem? I pay my taxes to the USA and don’t get any money from there. Are you really so Xenophobic and ignorant. I’m sad to see thIs attitude on FR. You do know we have a lot of foreign nationals and ex-pats here, don’t you? Do you hate them all as much as your message exudes?
