CORONADO, Calif. (AP) - President Barack Obama says the Penn State sex-abuse scandal should lead to "soul-searching" by all Americans, not just Penn State.
"Obviously what happened was heartbreaking, especially for the victims, the young people who got affected by these alleged assaults," he told Westwood One Radio in an interview Friday night, in his first public comments on the scandal.
"And I think it's a good time for the entire country to do some soul-searching - not just Penn State. People care about sports, it's important to us, but our No. 1 priority has to be protecting our kids. And every institution has to examine how they operate, and every individual has to take responsibility for making sure that our kids are protected."

"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek"-- BARACK OBAMA
Protecting kids from this kind of evil is a matter of national security. Read the transcript from the first grand jury investigation into this guy that took place several years ago. You have to wonder about the disappearance of the District Attorney who was to prosecute the case. He disappeared without a trace and that issue has never been resolved or, as far as I know, ever been a great concern to the university. Hopefully, with this renewed scrutiny, someone will find answers to this as well.
While perfect grammar is important — many people speak and write with perfect grammar and have nothing to say.
Good one!! LOL
Or nothing intelligent and/or moral to say.
Hmmmm.. which one is this from the Dear Leader.. a “teachable moment,” or “on-the-spot guidance?”
We are so blessed we have 0bama to teach us when to soul-search, aren`t we?
*PUKE
National security? You’ve got to be joking. Since when do we put the federal government in charge of morality? Sorry, but when it comes to matters of morality, I’ll instruct my children and request the government stay out of my business. The problem today is that we’re all too eager to turn all matters over the the government. Insane!
But you have to pretend it is so you can use it to take stuff away from them and give it to your friends.
Never let a crisis go to waste.
:) that made me lol!
oh, that’s good...can I swipe it? :)
Why not? I did. :)
;) Thanks!
Guess it all depends on what your difinition of “National Security” is — we are a constitutional republic with three branches of government. Imagine how many of these preditors would be out there if there were no laws and no government to protect the children. You have a right to determine your own morality, but you don’t have the right to make your own laws. This is about laws enacted to protect children — I cannot exclude the children and their welfare from what I believe to be the “national security” of a nation.
The less morality, the more laws.
The more laws, the less freedom.
The government cannot legislate morality. They can make all the laws they want but in an immoral culture they do no good.
Sorry inculcating moral values begins and ends with the family.
No God...no morals. Take a look around.
We want the likes of Bill Clinton who fellated a barely-legal intern in the Oval Office to teach us about morality?
We want Obama, who associated with terrorist, cop killer Bill Ayres to preach to us?
We want Obama, who favors partial birth abortion which is delivering a healthy, full-term baby until its head emerges from the womb when you then stick a scissors in the base of its skull so you can insert a canula to suck out his/her brains to preach morality to us?
You want Obama who sat in a Church week after week listening to Rev Wright’s hate speech preaching to us?
Sorry, my friend, the government cannot even balance the budget and they are now going to venture into areas of moral preaching?
