November 16, 2011So now, apparently, we have to go through the cycle of the media pushing Newt Gingrich. This is going to be fantastic.
In addition to having an affair in the middle of Clinton's impeachment; apologizing to Jesse Jackson on behalf of J.C. Watts -- one of two black Republicans then in Congress –- for having criticized "poverty pimps," and then inviting Jackson to a State of the Union address; cutting a global warming commercial with Nancy Pelosi; supporting George Soros' candidate Dede Scozzafava in a congressional special election; appearing in public with the Rev. Al Sharpton to promote nonspecific education reform; and calling Paul Ryan's plan to save Social Security "right-wing social engineering," we found out this week that Gingrich was a recipient of Freddie Mac political money.
(Even I will admit, however, that Newt was great when he was chairman of GOPAC back in the '90s with Gay Gaines at the helm.)
Although Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- the institutions most responsible for the nation's current financial crisis -- were almost entirely Democratic cash cows, they managed to dirty up enough Republicans to make it seem like bipartisan corruption.
Democrats sucked hundreds of millions of dollars out of these institutions: Franklin Raines, $90 million; Jamie Gorelick, $26.4 million; Jim Johnson, $20 million.
By contrast, Republicans came cheap. For the amazingly good price of only $300,000 apiece, Fannie and Freddie bought the good will of former Reps. Vin Weber, R-Minn., Susan Molinari, R-N.Y., and Newt Gingrich, R-Ga.* Former Sen. Alfonse D'Amato, R-N.Y., was even cheaper at $240,000.
[*Correction: After Gingrich admitted last week to receiving $300,000 from Freddie, we found out this week that it was actually closer to $1.6 million.]
So now conservatives shy away from denouncing these crooked organizations for fear of running into Vin Weber at a cocktail party.Sorry, guys -- on the plus side, you're millionaires, but on the downside, you've earned the contempt of your fellow man.
The mainstream media keep pushing alternatives to Mitt Romney not only because they are terrified of running against him, but also because they want to keep Republicans fighting, allowing Democrats to get a four-month jump on us.
Meanwhile, everyone knows the nominee is going to be Romney.
That's not so bad if you think the most important issues in this election are defeating Obama and repealing Obamacare.
But just seeing how many now here think Newt is the greatest thing since sliced bread, I fear once Romney is the nominee, we’re going to lose a lot of Freepers who will suggest we get with the program and get behind Mitt.
So, you support Mitt Romney, eh.
To be fair, he does claim to have had a Damascus Road conversion and see the light.
The early Christians followed the huckster Paul on his claim of a miraculous conversion by mere faith - and he spent years before that persecuting them.
It will take a lot more than mere faith to convince folks Mitt Romney is now a sincere, goodness to honest conservative.
She’s getting attention by this.
No the media is holding it's fire against Romney until he is nominated. Then watch the stories fly about him being a Mormon cultist, etc.

I lost respect 4 yrs ago for Ann when I wrote to her and asked her to send a signed book to my son, a Marine, over in Iraq. To which...she did nothing. Notta.

She’s apparently changed her philosophy and core convictions and become a moderate.
I haven’t.
That was just a clever ruse.
She was always for Romney, and knew that Christie wasn't going to run.
That way when asked who she was for, she wouldn't have to say Romney until she was ready to "out" herself as a Romney supporter.
It was always Romney, even in the last cycle.
Only then she was campaigning for Hilliary until she decided the timing was right to push Romney.
One of those "some" is the boss.

It's sad to find folks, even here, whose moral sense is so degraded that Barack Obama has become their plumb line.
Seems it doesn't matter how frequently the owner clearly states this website's policy on Romney. Some folks just insist on committing freepicide anyway.

The problem is conservatives don’t demand any one better. My standard is its not good enough to have a candidate a hair better than Obama. We can and must demand high standards.

The MSM did the exact same thing with McCain. Watch who they attack on our side - there's your clue as to who they really fear. The guy that isn't being attacked now is their pick for the primaries. Mittens is loaded with campaign cash - hell, he even had me fooled last time around, but I wanted no part of McCain, and Huckabee just didn't settle well with me either. I wanted Thompson, but he never really got going and had no financing or ground game. Mittens only rival cashwise is Perry, who has his own problems. Basically we could have fielded a much better slate than what is out there given the outrage, the 2010 elections, and three years to come up with better candidates. Sarah is showing me why she made the right choice to stay out - probably didn't really want it. Prefers to be a king-maker, although I suspect her popularity will quickly fade into obscurity.
Gridlock? With Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader McConnell (if we take the Senate)?
Oh yeah, they’ll hold fast and stop Obama.
