I was about 37 when I realized that I was not a babe magnet anymore. (Well - I knew it all along I guess, but one can still hope!)
Christmas shopping with my two little girl babies in the stroller. The cute young check-out girl waves me over to her register and I no-doubt sucked in my gut a bit. She looks at my two beautiful girls and says “Oh how adorable - are you their Grandfather?”. Sigh...
I tried to warn my brother-in-law about his Eastern European babe that he met on-line. (Probably a guy anyway!) Even after trading photographs of each other she still wanted to meet him. (She was a knockout 20-something prone to wearing skimpy swimwear and underwear, BIL was a 48 year old guy and 150 lbs overweight).
But no - they were in love. Well, until she said she had made plane reservations, but there was a snafu at her bank, and in order to get the cheapest fare she needed to buy it by the next day and can you wire over $1200 and I’ll send you a check because the airline doesn’t take checks....
Luckily he got all mad at “her” and said he couldn’t believe she would take advantage of him like that, and that’s it “I’m breaking up with her...” (He STILL didn’t get it!)
Well, once in a while love conquers all! (yum)
Hmm, what kind of engineering project would a former green party write-in do? Compost toilets?
No money?
What was he going to do if she actually had showed up?
Take out a loan from her to pay for the wedding?
She’s a 29 year old doctor. He is a 53 year-old undergrad (Organizational Studies!) who has been twice divorced. Ain’t gonna work.
“Gee, Peggy. I didn’t know what I was going to find...but I sure didn’t expect you to have a beard!”
Yulia? “My” Yulia is in a Ukraine jail. Sigh.
Good. We need less morons here.
I know someone who brought one here and she was turning tricks while he was at work.
You gotta be cateful with craigslist from what i’ve heard. Go to a meetingg and you could end up homeless in some foreign country
I think the guy has mental problems.......
Yes, those threads and photographs were simply awesome.
Well the Beatles did say they leave the West behind.
Guilty.
There are Eastern European women who simply want to escape their misery and live in the West and are practical enough to accept that the man they must live with to get this is not “a catch”, as long as he has money.
But there are a lot of scammers out there and any man who doesn’t use the Reagan strategy (”trust but verify”) is setting themselves up for a world of hurt.
If anyone was to seriously pursue this, they should learn some of the native language and about the town the woman is from, engage in some video chats (webcams are everywhere and not hard to arrange) where you have a chance to get beyond small talk and swapping photos.
Then if both parties really do seem to hit it off, the man should travel there, meet her family, etc. Getting visas for her to visit from Ukraine, Russia, etc. is not only expensive but can be a bureaucratic nightmare even if she is well-intentioned. It’s easier for the American to do the travelling and control the expenses.
There’s a lot of fraud to online dating, not just with Eastern Europeans but everywhere. Anyone who wants to truly find a soulmate needs to make sure the heart stays back behind the brain in making any decisions.
Throw the book at him.
And a new haircut too.
He’s an independent guy.
He said something like “I know they only want to marry so they can come to the states. But it takes 4 years for them to be legal, so for 4 years I've got good food, someone to take care of the house, and GREAT sex. It costs about 40 grand - but that isn't much more than leasing a nice car.”
I was astounded - I couldn't believe people took their relationships like that!? Only one child - from his original Filipino wife, and he is older now. He said he and all of the wives (all together!) and his son still get together every year for dinner.
