Village Voice ^ | 11/17/11 | Steven Thrasher

Today is November 17, the two month anniversary since Occupy Wall Street began. Protestors have declared today to be an International Day of Action, calling for people to "occupy their block," to "shut down Wall Street" starting at 7:00 AM, and to "occupy the subway" starting at 3:00 PM. We have been hearing that protestors, and the NYPD, will be amassing all over the city today, and will be live blogging dispatches from our own Village Voice staff writers Rosie Gray (@_rosiegray) and Nick Pinto (@macfathom), as well as photographer C.S. Muncy (@CSMuncyPhoto), who are on the scene through out lower Manhattan.

5:15 AM: From the anchor desk here in downtown Brooklyn, we hear a helicopter that sounds like it is heading towards Manhattan. Nick sends two pictures: this one appears to be on an NYPD roll call, just north of the Wall Street bull:

The really are looking for their “Kent State” moment.

Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.

The “poor” and “down trodden” certainly have a lot of very expensive audio and video equipment.

"This Occupy Wall Steet protester suffered a head injury after he knocked off a police officer's hat - and set off a near riot in Zuccotti Park, according to our reporter John Doyle. Photos by Craig Warga/New York Daily News."

Looks like one smart ass protestor just found out the hard way what happens when you screw with NYC's finest..

I feel terrible for the police that have to deal with this crap.

"3:18 PMAnjali MullanyRocco Parascandola reports that there have been more than 100 Occupy Wall Street-related arrests so far today in New York City.

To update our earlier report about a copy with a hand injury: a cop was cut on the left hand by a thrown glass object.

A DCPI official told Jennifer Cunningham, "The officer who was injured was responding to a call for help inside the park. The cop responded inside. One of the protesters threw something. It was an object that had glass in it. I can't even describe it because I haven't seen it. It was something that was being held that was thrown at the officer. He's got a nasty cut on his left hand. Its probably going to take a about 20 stitches."

Cops are looking for the attacker.

Another cop was doused in the face with an unknown liquid earlier.

Four cops who were doused with a liquid earlier went to New York Downtown hospital.

Early this morning, police recovered - from doorways of Financial District buildings and from a truck stopped of the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn-Battery tunnel - about a dozen locking devices.

3:55 PMAnjali MullanyKerry Burke is at Union Square, where he says about 400 protesters have congregated at the north side of the park. About 100 of the protesters walked up University Place from NYU.

It's raining, and there are more umbrellas on the scene than signs. The protesters are chanting:

"Students and workers, shut the city down!" "Money for jobs and education, not police and corporations!"

Meanwhile, Jennifer Cunningham is following several hundred protesters as they march up to Union Square past City Hall, chanting "Hey hey! Ho ho! Bloomberg has got to go!"

I don't know who Congressman Michael Grimm is but good for him for saying this!

"2:30 PMMeena Hartenstein Congressman Michael Grimm on OWS:

“These people have overstayed their welcome and it’s time they get the heck out of New York City. Between the filth, the smell, the incessant noise, and threat to public safety, they have done nothing but cause a nuisance to the people who work and live in Lower Manhattan. They’ve cost the city and surrounding businesses millions of dollars, and it’s time these people find a more productive use of their time. New Yorkers have had ENOUGH! “ said Congressman Michael Grimm (R-Staten Island).

“The people I represent are the hard-working ‘99%’ who simply want to go to work, do their jobs, and get home to their families without being hassled along the way. They already face one of the longest commutes in the nation without having to deal with this mob. It is reprehensible for these lowlifes to overrun the Staten Island Ferry or the subways to Brooklyn and add further hours to the trip home,” he said.

“I applaud the efforts of Mayor Bloomberg, and the NYPD under Commissioner Kelly’s leadership, in cleaning up Zuccotti Park and managing a potentially violent and destructive situation. They have done a tremendous job! However, it has been two months and now it’s time for the OWS protesters to pack up their tents, buy a bar of soap, and head home,” Grimm said.

lol! Im sure he thought exactly that. These people are the definition of useful idiots for sure.

Its getting kind of crazy now and ramped up according to the live blogs ---------------------------------

2:48 PMMatthew Lysiak It's full blown mayhem at Zuccotti right now. A lot of protesters running...jumping over the barricades.

4:12 PMKaren ZraickMayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Kelly will update New Yorkers at 3:40 p.m. after visiting with injured NYPD personnel at Bellevue Hospital.

(these useful idiot morons are absolutely delusional! - blackseal)

4:15 PMAnjali MullanyOver 700 protesters - mostly in their early 20s - are taking part in an energetic rally in Union Square, where our Kerry Burke is on the scene.

Free education is a theme of the speeches. It seems this particular protest was organized by Occupy Wall Street protesters from the New School.

When a young man shouted, "We are the students of New York City and we demand a free education!", the crowd exploded in cheers.

When a young woman from Pratt declared, "Education should be as free as air and water," she was received with big cheers.

4:02 PMAnjali MullanyIn Union Square, the crowd has swelled to over 500 protesters.

Using the human mic, protesters called out to ask which schools are represented at the rally.

"NYU? - the crowd exploded.

"Hunter?" - the crowd exploded.

"Any CUNY school?" - the crowd exploded.

"Columbia?" - dead silence. After some nervous laughter, the boos rang out.

Now 8 speakers are slated to speak.

Thanks to Kerry Burke in Union Square for this report.

What time line are you using? Right now its 1:33 p.m. MST which is 3:33 EST. Can’t be 3:55 or after 4 p.m. in NYC just yet.

The “mic check” thing sounds like the M*A*S*H episode where Frank Burns tried to shout a relay of the blessing of the new M*A*S*H. In fact, I believe it was called “Bug Out”, how apropos.

“Money for jobs and education, not police and corporations!”

What these useful idiots and cannon fodder for the radical left don’t realize is that without police they would be raped and murdered by the hood rats and without corporations there would be no jobs. What these parasites want is for the taxpayers to pay for their worthless degrees in women’s studies and then get a cushy, no-work government job that pays six figures with generous health benefits and six weeks annual vacation. What they deserve is a severe attitude adjustment.

Tim doing the LiveStream douchebag is craving Starbucks at the Starbucks I referred to earlier, but they locked their doors this afternoon. LOL! He filmed two sad-looking girls holding "Occupy Starbucks" signs, so they closed to say FU to the po'testors.

Discussing going up 5th Avenue to Washington Square Park, possibly reconvene at Foley Park later. Inflating their group size.

Anyone know where I can watch President's Cup replay in another window while I keep tabs on these losers.
