Is GOP missing chance to grow? (Hispanic vote)

...“You would be surprised at how many Republican Latinos there actually are in the state of Nevada. There are quite a few of us,” said Alex Garza, a Hispanic Republican activist. “I think the numbers are there; we just haven’t organized as well as the Democratic Latino organizations.”

The potential political power of Latinos is an oft-told story in Nevada and elsewhere, though any happy ending at the polls usually is enjoyed by Democrats.

...During the Republican presidential candidates’ nationally televised debate in Las Vegas last month, they were asked how they would speak to the Latino community. Newt Gingrich suggested that Latinos didn’t need to be singled out as any different from any other ethnic group. But Rick Santorum suggested Latinos should naturally gravitate toward the Republican Party because of shared faith-based values.

That message resonates with some Latinos.

“The Republican Party has very, very strong family values ... Latino families in general believe in the family values as well,” said Jose Hernandez, an accountant who serves as a youth pastor at his evangelical church with a mostly Latino group of 18- to 30-year-olds he counsels.

“My youth that I teach, obviously I’m teaching them Biblical principles and stuff, but then outside, I introduce them to the subject ... and by doing that I’m actually getting people to start coming around and thinking that the Republican agenda actually has better options than President Obama and the Senate,” he said. “If they’re learning good Christian values, they will vote Republican.”

Catching the youth is key any effort to gain support in the community. Nationwide, every month, 50,000 Latinos turn 18 and become eligible to vote.

Cantu and Garza say the party is working on it but could use funding and assistance from the greater Nevada GOP...

Yawn. Talk’s cheap. Perry hasn’t walked the walk that he claims.

Nice fiction novel you’re building by posting chapter installments to Perry threads.

Going for 3rd party? Trying to drive voters to Obama?

Who is your candidate?

I would add quotas to your list. No more unchecked immigration from “latin” countries while forgetting all about the rest of the world.

Gov. Rick Perry says the border will be SEALED and no amnesty — cartels killed off.

I wanted to like the guy, really I did. But it took me just a short time to discover the pro-ILLEGAL alien RINO does not represent my conservative values -- not by a long shot. It's sad that so many 'conservatives' here either look past or accept his liberal leanings. People are different, I understand that. But being pro-ILLEGAL alien is not conservative, there's just no defending it.

Yep. Me too. Until his record on invaders started coming out I was actually all for him.

I also bought into the jobs thing till I found out the truth: Most of the jobs went to illegals and immigrants.

Perry seems like a decent guy. I just can't get past what he's supporting in order to get elected.

I disagree. I don't think Perry is any more decent than California's liberal governor Jerry Brown whose rhetoric and policy on taxpayer funded subsidies for ILLEGAL aliens is identical to that of La Raza Rick Perry.

A liberal is a liberal.

You lose more credibility every time you post.

Yep, all the airports will keep those undesirable Europeans out but the southern border will still have those "holes" that are just to difficult to close.

Would Perry agree to a moratorium on hispanic immigration till we get 20 million people from non-hispanic countries?

Oh, good. Another article about racist latinos that see themselves as something other than Americans first.

I have noted for years that indifference toward Latinos, and the failure to understand the difference between recruiting and pandering, may mean the GOP becoming a permanent minority party in the foreseeable future.

Conceding the hispanic vote, or the black vote for that matter, is a disaster waiting to happen.

Whatever you think of hispanics is of no importance as long as it doesn't infect the leaders of the party. Latinos vote, and in ever increasing numbers, "racist" or not, and their votes don't have labels on them. They all count the same.

If “winning” means we have to placate illegals to gain the “hispanic” vote then I spit in every “hispanics” face. I have a co-worker form Brazil he is half german and half Italian by birth. The US Govt. considers him “Hispanic”.

Yes and 80 percent of those were brought upon getting freebies from the tax payer, and to think they are not going to vote to keep those freebies is stupid. Build the wall let them vote for freebies in their home countries.

One way to attract the Hispanic vote is to accurately describe the Democrat agenda.

For example:

“The Democrats want a man to be able to marry a man.”

Imagine that message on a giant billboard showing two men holding hands and kissing each other.

(That meme should be worth millions of votes.)

“I detest identity politics but then....”

Did you ever note the saying (I _think_ this came from the German general von Clauswitz, not certain), “you may not be interested in war, but war may be interested in you” ??

Let me rephrase that slightly:
“You may not be interested in identity politics, but identity politics may be interested in you....”

That you “detest” the notion of “identity politics” does not make it any less real. That type of “tribal behavior” (and yes, it is based on ethnicity, skin coloration, and [horror of horrors] race) not only exists, but is becoming increasingly influential in American politics. The “colors of the country” are changing, and to the dismay of American Euros (who politely tried to ignore such changes the past 40+ years). We (I am a Euro) might have “nipped that in the bud” (by preserving the ethnic/immigration policies the USA had adopted back in the early 1920’s), but deliberately chose not to do so.

Now we are reaping the “diversity harvest” from seeds that were sown decades ago.

If you haven’t read it, I’ll recommend Patrick J. Buchanan’s new book, “Suicide of a Superpower” to you. You probably won’t agree with it, but it’s good reading nonetheless.

Closing thought, based on simple arithmetic:
Suppose “our side” gets about 35-40% “of the Hispanic vote”. That means the OTHER SIDE gets 60-65%. The more Hispanics there are, the more votes the other side gets — doesn’t matter that we consistently garner 40%. The “real numbers” for our side will always decline vis-a-vis _their side_.
100,000 votes - we get 40,000, they get 60,000 (they beat us by 20,000 votes)
200,000 votes - we get 80,000, but THEY get 120,000 (they beat us by _40,000_ votes)
Which side will forever win, politically?

Best regards,
- Glide

Racial/Identity Politics is a polite way to say tribalism. It is a step backwards for humanity. I’ll have no part of it.

Ironically, Perry never said the word heartless, and he was talking about the small number of undocumented children brought into Texas by illegal immigrants that would qualify under Texas law for the in-state college tuition rate. Newt was actually commenting on what to do about the 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants that are already here. Yet, Newt seems to get a complete pass on his heartless commentary even though it went directly to the center of the illegal immigration issue. Obviously, it's not about the word heartless in the context of illegal immigration, it's all about bashing Rick Perry.

How can you be proud of the fact that Perry addressed a racist organization like La Raza? Would you be proud of him if he addressed the Black Panthers or the KKK?
