Now It's Newt's Turn for an Anal Exam, But How Come It's Never Mitt Romney's?

But it's a little deeper than that. Take a step back, understand why Republican voters are responding to Newt now, as opposed to a month ago, six weeks, two months ago. I mean Newt's been in the race since it began. Why now? Why now is Newt Gingrich at the top of the heap in Iowa and in some national polls as well? Why? We are three years into Barack Obama's war on prosperity and I think Americans are coming to grips with the upside, if not the necessity, of limited government. And now that people understand or are beginning to understand the deceit that is liberalism, including its standard-bearer, Barack Hussein Obama, mmm, mmm, mmm, they're looking for somebody to clearly articulate a way out, and they want to hear it said with strength and passion and power and intelligence.

They’re waiting for Mitt to be the nominee, because they know they have the goods to thoroughly destroy him.

WHY? The MSM is rigged to take on Mittens when he gets the nod. The class warfare card is all ready to be played. They will not hit him until he is selected to lead the GOP. They did this to McCain—The Media was his friend—the Maverick—the darling of the lets cross the aisles crowd—until he got the nod. Then he became a tottering old fool. He almost reversed it by putting in Sarah Palin as VP. But they got her in some gotcha interviews and comedy skits.
BUT if the GOP selects—Newt? Maybe a new ball game.

Sad, but I am afraid I agree with you. Romney the chameleon will do better with actual primary voters than the polls indicate. The history is clear, GOP primary voters default to the safest option more often not - especially when the alternatives are so weak or untested. Newt or Cain might win in Iowa, but the pattern will establish itself pretty quickly in the rest of the states and it will follow basically along your predicted outcome.

The best we can hope for it Newt really gets his act together and grows into a very strong anti-Romney candidate. If the majority of movement conservatives and Tea Party folks get behind Newt early enough, it might change the dynamic.

I agree the Dems are waiting on Romney. They expect him to be the Nominee and will wait until the last minute to attack him - with little time to respond.

That’s funny. I’ve heard Leftists say that about Obama: there’s no need for the press to investigate Obama because he was so thoroughly vetted in 2008. We already know everything about the guy!

Are you kidding? The 0 machine is panting to run against Newt in 2012. He is the one GOP candidate who the 0 PR machine can credibly paint in 2012 as a DC insider to independent voters. Like McCain in 2008 and Dole in 1996 Newt is the good old GOP Establishment boy that the GOP machine will convince themselves is political “genius” to run.

And then, when confronted by the most fabulously unethical, dishonest well funded Campaign machine in US History, their “good old boy” will be painted as part of the corrupt Washington DC Establishment that “wrecked” the Economy.

Newt will be lucky to win 200 Electoral votes.

The GOP is about to make a major mistake.

It is going to run yet another GOP bot who the incumbent Democrat machine will be able to demagogue and out populist.

Newt is DOA in the General Election.

Too bad the GOP-bot machine is too politically incompetent to realize it.

Odd when you were racing around here trash talking everyone not Newt, never heard a word of complaint about how people on FR were helping the enemy.

Guess we are only helping the enemy when we ask tough questions about your St Newt hmm?

I'd hoped Perry could do well, but the man can't communicate well enough for the job.

Me too. But man, he's awful.

yep, conservatives are being manipulated by the media into disliking everyone but Mitt.

But it hasn’t worked with me, I am still on the Cain train and will vote Cain no matter what.

I think a case can be made that Newt would me a worse, more dangerous president than Romney. I'm not sure I like Newt over Romney when I look at their records, character, history.

I doubt I'll vote for either in the primary. Probably will either toss my vote away or not bother to show up. But if it's clearly a choice of Newt or Romney when the primaries hit NJ, I'll have to think about it.

Well, your analysis of the primaries is pretty solid I think. I believe Newt is our best option, but it’s not like I am super excited about him - I just don’t see another alternative. Which of these candidates do you think would make the best nominee?

lol

There is nothing Mitt could do to convince me to vote for him.

And I am tired of playing the smack the conservative gopher game, I am sticking with Cain.
