Golden Oldies: Newt and the “cancer bed divorce” myth
Hot Air ^ | 11/19/2011 | Jazz Shaw

With Newt Gingrich continuing to surge in the polls, plenty of stories are bubbling to the surface, including things from the distant past. And let’s face it… Newt has been knocking around US politics for an awfully long time, with tales of many of his exploits being told and retold until they pass into legend. Of course, you know what they say about legends.

[countable] an old story about famous people and events in the past. Legends are not usually true

One of the more nasty ones is the persistent tale of how Newt went to see his wife as she lay dying of cancer in her hospital bed and presented her with divorce papers. Ouch. That’s a pretty unpleasant story to float about anyone, and apparently it’s so temptingly salacious that it keeps getting hinted at in the media and I’ve seen it cropping up again on Twitter as recently as last night. Unfortunately for the gossip minded, nearly every aspect of the story is false and has been roundly debunked by what should be considered a pretty reliable source – his own daughter who was in the hospital room at the time. (Hat tip to OTB.)

50% of marriages end in divorce. I don’t think we’ve reached the point where have the PEOPLE have gotten divorced. Remember, for every person like you with two divorces, 2 couples can have had no divorces and the overal number of failed marriages would be 50%.

With all this practice, you’re getting really adept at that hyperbole thing. Is it improving your writing?

I really don’t know for sure since I have not seen recent stats. That’s why I framed the clause the way I did.

Um, reverse the coin and ask which candidate will be the attack focus of the fifth column media we've euphemistically called the fourth estate? Baggage will be the only weapon the media can produce to try and obfuscate the absolute bankruptcy of their little barry democrat demigod. What we must accomplish is the trumping of their baggage card on the grounds of it's irrelevance compared to Barry Bassturd's real baggage they refuse to report as they herd too many ignorant democrat constituencies to the next election. How do we do that?

One of the reasons Newt is striking a nerve with the voters is because he takes on the media and tells it like it is.

Immunity to the rule of law by elected politicians is something that must be addressed and dealt with. I'd like to see Newt get into this. If all of the candidates just accept the lawlessness and corruption that has become ingrained in DeeCee, there is really no use in looking toward the future with any optimism. It will simply become everyone for themselves.

I doubt the men who had their wives cheat on them and then dump them are going to feel much MORE sympathy for a guy who cheated on his wife and dumped her.

I wasn’t the one who did the whole “darker side of divorce” argument, which was by it’s nature an emotional argument full of hyperbole. My point stands — to the degree that argument had any validity, the sympathies are going to rest with those who were wronged in a marriage, not with the guy who committed the indiscretions and was the cause of the divorce.

I’ve been working on my use of hyperbole for a number of years now. And having been one cheated on and gone through a divorce, I can as easily claim I know how to forgive and am offended by the media trying to use the tragedy of divorce as a measn to shut conservatives up in their opposition to the leftist destruction of American, and especially trying to squelch conservative opposition to the erasing of taboo structures in society which protect the society from the cancer of rising degeneracy. I can condemn ifidelity and praise avoidance of divorce while still supporting a political candidate on the grounds of God’s forgiveness. The left’s accusation of hypocrisy can be damned along with their own blatant hypocrisy and devilish agenda.

What is the problem, newt was banging his high school teacher, he got out of the draft and she gave him a free education, just living the American dream.

I'm no great fan of Newt, but he was born in 1943. The first Vietnam Draft lottery was held for men born between 1944 and 1950.

IOW, he wasn't eligible.

Furthermore, he married Jackie Battley in 1962, a full seven years BEFORE the draft. If Newt really is that prescient, then perhaps we should all vote for Newt!

The problem that Newt has is that the only person I’ve heard dispute this is his daughter. I’ve never heard Newt say the story wasn’t true.

"...women are going to sympathize with Newt Gingrich..."

Who wants to 'sympathize' my husband wants to know what he eats for breakfast.....

Multiple affairs? When did he have time...US presidents had 'affairs' only they called it Mistresses...JFK did not have mistresses, he had affairs...sort of a distinction without a difference...more importantly is Newt's stand on illegal immigrants, global warming, Obama Care, SS, the bloated Bureaucracy that is the compost of Washington D.C. costing the nation billions in waste...Our Second Amendment Rights, Justice NOT Social Justice....where does Newt stand on these issues...not his decampment from his wives....

1. The highschool teacher was in charge of the situation.
2. The divorce was also ber idea. After nine years she just couldn’t imagine him to be a kid still in school anymore.

No alternative to Gingrich? Wrong! This 4+ minute video at the link at the bottom explains why.

I’ve recently had some old and intelligent friends respond to the previous messages with “Paul can’t beat Obama. Gingrich can.”

If that IS where we are today, it says far more about US than it does the candidate. Perhaps we HAVE returned to a feudal system where the smiling, glib, attractive and powerful lord of the manor is responsible for the rest of us, his vassals and serfs. God help us if that is so!

The same media that have lied to you about anthropogenic global warming, Obama’s qualifications to be president, largely failed to expose Newt’s REAL world-view, etc., etc., etc. have been BLOCKING Ron Paul and his message of smaller, Constitutional government and individual freedom and continue to ATTEMPT to BRAINWASH you into believing that Ron is UNELECTABLE. Apparently the majority of the 700,000 citizens in his south Texas district think he’s QUITE electable — multiple times!

If Gingrich’s numbers rise, watch the same media bandwagon now rolling OVER Ron Paul start to roll FOR Newt. If and when that happens, you need to ask yourself WHY that same lying, dishonest, leftist establishment media would do that? The short answer is that Newt would advance their agenda. The next question should be a reflective one: Is that MY agenda? If it IS YOUR agenda, here is what Sam Adams had to say about you over 200 years ago:

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsel or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

I am STILL awaiting responses to my request for corrections of any errors in the Gingrich record sent earlier. I’m also awaiting Newt’s reply concerning his support for the RINO Scozzafava over the more conservative candidate in the 2009 special election in the NY 23rd.

Toover3Owithabrain aka me without sin casting stones:

Matthew 6:14-15 NIV
For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Matthew 18: 21-22 NIV
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, " Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times? " Jesus answered, " I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times."

Numbers 14:19-20 NIV
In accordance with your great love, forgive the sin of these people, just as you have pardoned them from the time they left Egypt until now. The Lord replied, " I have forgiven them, as you asked."

John 8:7 NIV
When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."

Acts 7:59-60 NIV
While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, " Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Luke 17:3-4 NIV
So watch yourselves. " If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents forgive him. If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says , 'I repent,' forgive him."

Ephesians 4:32 ESV Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Colossians 3:13 ESV Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

Proverbs 19:11 ESV Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.

Matthew 18:32-35 ESV Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. (33) And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ (34) And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt. (35) So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.”

Colossians 2:13-14 ESV And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, (14) by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

Romans 4:7-8 ESV “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; (8) blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”

Mark 11:25NLT  “When you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

Colossians 3:13NLT “You must make allowance for each other's faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

Hebrews 8:12NLT “I will forgive their wrongdoings, and I will never again remember their sins," says the Lord.”

Matthew 6:14-15NLT  “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.“

Ephesians 4:32NLT  “Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”

Luke 6:37NLT  “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.”

Matthew 6:12NLT  “And forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.”

Luke 18:9-14 NIV  The Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector

9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Luke 6:42 NIV  “How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.”

Have you read some of the scathing self-righteous rants, not just on this thread, but any thread where Newt’s past comes up... study up. Hate stinks.

Perry wouldn't go all native if he went to DC, but at least that aspect of his current belief system is consistent with his record as governor.

His believe system in regards to Islam is a national security threat IMO. You cannot enable, invite and cater to the muslim community as he has and does without recognizing it goes hand and hand with their agenda to populate and that with the idea of the Islamification of America...which is surely in Texas and growing leap and bounds...no thanks to Perry's work to bring them there.
