PRINCETON, NJ -- Republicans are most likely to name Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich as their first choice for their party's 2012 presidential nomination, with Herman Cain close behind. Among all Republicans nationwide, Romney is the choice of 20% and Gingrich 19%. Among Republican registered voters, Gingrich is at 22% and Romney at 21%.

Gingrich is an opportunist, sometimes spouts off boneheaded comments, and, has been kind of a douche in his personal life at times.

However, to call a guy who balanced the budget 4 years in a row, successfully got welfare reform accomplished, has a 98%+ pro-life voting record, and got the GOP a majority for the first time in 40 years at the time a RINO is disingenuous at best.

At this point, I’d crawl over hot coals to vote for Newt.

"How much more time do conservatives need to find a champion?"

I don't have a clue. I don't have any answers, just a lot of questions.
I am still for Herman.
Thank God it was women and not little boys. UH OH I probably gave the RATS something. . . . .

I’m for ABO and expect to be voting for the winner of the GOP primary.

"I’m for ABO"

Put me down for ABO too.
Yes NEWTIE LOVERS I will hold me nose once again if he gets it.
One of the main reasons I am so opposed to NEWTIE is the RATS are salivating for him to get it.
All that baggage will come out one suitcase at a time for months.

Newtie’s ‘My Three Wives’ alone will kill him in a general.

In a normal year, I’d agree...but at this point, I can think of about 15 trillion reasons why I don’t think it’s going to matter.

All the media has to do (and will do) is drive up the negatives of whichever flawed candidate they are pushing for us to put up higher than Zero’s. Newtie is toxic.

They all are flawed using that logic. Cain’s a womanizing sexual assailant, Romney belongs to a religious cult, Perry’s a stupid redneck, Bachmann is as crazy as Palin, and you know how nuts she is, Santorum is a gay-hating religious nut, Newt’s been married a lot and he’s old, fat and mean, etc. etc. etc.

I could go on.

Disclaimer: The comments above are not mine, they are the comments the MSM has in their vault for all of the above candidates.

P-F, posting the truth about Herman Cain. Tsk-tsk-tsk! You’d probably point out the emperor’s nakedness if he strutted by!

Cainskeptimania is not permitted here, m’dear.

I have been acutely skeptical of him from the very first. (That would be the words, “Shucky ducky!!” whatever that means, and “Love YAWL!!”) When he put on those shades and announced his candidacy with that preamble, I saw a huckster, a vendor of shoddy goods; as wiki defines it, “a seller of small articles [like his experience in politics], who tricks others into buying cheap imitation products [like presidential Cain] and then bargains them as if they were the real thing [like a conservative].”

Sticking to the facts, quoting Cain verbatim, entreating people to go to links with their own ears and eyes, and heaven forbid preferring another candidate, is like trying to reason with a victim of ergotism.

Be patient and let nature run its course. Cain is a self-limiting candidate and the recovery rate should be 100%.

The MSM still has “October Surprise” to use against Cain. Which is the allegation, that he illegally used campaign funds and donations to buy 18,000 copies of his book from himself. That way he was able to gain personal income from his campaign supporters.

If this is actually found to be factual and not just another buried hit piece, then the Cain candidacy will be troubled indeed.

Cain is the latest beneficiary of the Angle/O'Donnell/Palin mindset which is very, very strong on FR. It's the mindset which holds that naivete and artlessness are not only acceptable in a candidate, they are downright required. Even a hint of scholarly attainment in a candidate is despised.

This is an understandable reaction to the we-know-better-than-you hyper academicism of the Obama administration. But it's an overreaction, and in my opinion it's gone way too far.

Except the allegation against Newtie is right. He cheated on wife #1 with wife #2, and while the Lewinsky crap was going on, he was cheating on wife #2 with wife #3 (and who’s to say he’s not banging future wife #4 at present or soon). He’s a creep and a philanderer. And he’s old and fat.

That is kind of where I am at right now. I have slowed my bashing since I started to think about SCOTUS picks and things like that.

Not to mention the military and the Middle East threat. Staying home isn’t worth the price.

We cannot do another 4 years of Obama.

We just can’t.

These qualities are said to attract unicorns, too. Personally, I prefer the "sadder but wiser" politician.
