MILLERSBURG, Ohio - The leader of a breakaway Amish group allowed the beatings of those who disobeyed him, made some members sleep in a chicken coop and had sexual relations with married women to "cleanse them," federal authorities said as they charged him and six others with hate crimes in hair-cutting attacks against other Amish.
Authorities raided the group's compound in eastern Ohio on Wednesday morning and arrested seven men, including group leader Sam Mullet and three of his sons.
Several members of the group carried out the attacks in September and October by forcefully cutting the beards and hair of Amish men and women, authorities said. Cutting the hair is a highly offensive act to the Amish, who believe the Bible instructs women to let their hair grow long and men to grow beards and stop shaving once they marry.

Every time I tried to cleanse married women they said no.
Okay, I didn’t ask, but it WAS a great line...
The Ohio cops got their rocks off over this arrest, let me tell you for sure.
These are crimes, but I really do rebele at people calling them hate crimes. If something is a crime, it stands on it’s own. If a person has broken the law, the charge should suffice. No need to embellish, other than to simply describe what actually took place.
The judiciary along with a power-crazed and greedy govt are completely out of control. Amish people are not the enemy.
Agreed
This is just a crime, and should be punished as one.
My question is did these women consentially agree to be cleansed or were they raped, In which case this Mullett should be charged with rape.
Hmm, sounds like the “victims” were prideful of their beards. Pride goes against Amish beliefs.
It is none of your concern.
Oh, come on now. Nowbody keyed in to the lead haircutting attacker’s name? drum roll-
———Sam Mullet
Thanks Venturer. I agree. And toss the key away if he did some of this.
I do (not) like the way the media loves to punch up the volume when a religion is involved. None the less, the flower power commune days when rapes and other crimes took place, were blissful evidence of how life could be perfect without formal religion being involved.
The media can have a love affair with similar activity, if only the right group(s) is/are perpetrating the crimes.
...and his three sons. “The Mullet gang?”
At least they don’t appear to be hairmosexuals.
Amish committing hairer attacks.
Oh, I caught that right away, and went immediately to Google Images to get a bunch of pics of mullet-adorned guys to post as a group photo of the attackers.
Only one problem. After perusing the mullet pics for a few minutes, I had to go be very ill outside by the shed. I just now got back in...
Men are not permitted to wear hats in court, right? So take a look at Lester and Daniel (2nd and 3rd from left).... what the heck kind of a haircut is that?!?!?
Not very many branches off that family tree is there?
That “bowl” cut is the way the men wear their hair.
mebbe they’ll get a religious exemption on those orange jail jumpsuits...too gaudy...
No, cutting one’s beard, or a woman’s hair is considered shameful. The length is not a matter of pride.
Beard length is a matter determined by local districts though, some groups trim their beards and there is one group in Ross county OHIO that does not wear beards.
Oh, I thought this was another flash mob/knockout game thread...
But it’s the real Amish...
The irony.
