It’s not really that hard to understand. The 20-25% that support Romney are RINOs, and they will never support anyone else besides maybe Huntsman. Bachmann’s interests are best served by attacking those that could bleed support to her.
Then the washed up has-been starts talking about “separating families”...that sounds more like the ACLU or La Raza. If anyone dares to tell me that crap I’m going to tell them that I have been separated from my political representation.JOIN THE FRIGGIN CROWD!!!!!

Candidates choose their VP running mates in part by what help that VP running mate can bring to the ticket. Romney is going to have a tough sell to conservatives. Having somebody like Bachmann as a VP would help Romney seal the deal. Bachmann appears to be keeping that option open - if not outright operating as a stalking horse - by keeping her gloves off Romney.
The last remaining non-Romney candidate left at the end will get most of the votes supporting all the non-Romney candidate.
This non-Romney “to-be-named” candidate is currently scoring about 50%.
Romney will retain his 22% or so establishment-type supporters. Those who vote for anything with an R on it.
The establishment machine will have to resort to extreme tactics bordering on illegality to make Romney the nominee.
Because a sizeable chunk of the electorate is utterly fed up with the Republican as well as the Democratic party machines.
At the convention, this non-Romney will gain a lot of momentum as the “loyal R” voters obediently support them and the working, tax-paying voting base suddenly becomes very excited about the possibility of the breath of fresh air brought in by someone looking to at least attempt to do battle with the lobbyist-politician machine.

And look at her list of top 100 contributors at opensecrets.org ! [lol] Ha ! A lot of “bigtime lobby interests there” - NOT ! It’s all from individuals, a smattering of yocals and tiny amounts. And most of them work for rather ho-hum small to medium companies. No wonder I agree with her positions on the issues - Jimmy Stewart didn’t have a contributor list as good as this.

All of the above. She has gone off the rail. I thought a lot of her in the beginning but she’s exposed a side of her that is not at all attractive.
Good point, which sort of makes sense from a business-side view of politics. But Bachmann always struck me as an idealist, who would put beliefs and principles above everything else.
I get that she’d try to bleed votes and support, because it’s politics, and that’s the name of the game. But still, she almost comes across as a leech rather than a serious player.
I might get flamed for saying it, but I completely agree with you on Gingrich, btw. I’m still hoping Cain will rebound but my instincts tell me he’s finished, and Gingrich is the last real hope we have to beat Romney. He has a colorful past but you can’t deny his experience. I’ve done some thorough research on his background and record and I think he’s traditionally been a lot more conservative than people here are giving him credit for. I won’t mind if he gets the nomination, and I’d sure take him over Romney, or especially Obama.

I wouldn’t mind her as president (she was my first pick early on in the race), but she’s got a LONG way to go.

That’s one of the reasons that I’m pretty much on full lurker mode nowadays. These campaign seasons get really nasty. People tend to get a little too emotionally invested. I personally think people have to keep an open mind and not become dead-set that one candidate is “America’s Only Hope.” In the end, only one of these people is going to get the nomination. And I like all of them except Huntsman and Romney, so I would be happy if any of them got it.
Every non-Romney candidate except for Paul, Huntsman, and Santorum has exploded to the top, then flamed out. It’s been an ugly, volatile race. Like you, I see Gingrich as the last viable option, unless Santorum pulls something miraculous at the last minute (which I sorta doubt).
Maybe she is trying to clear the way of the other candidates in her hope of taking on Romney at the end.
