Former Mossad Head Yatom: Israel Can't Afford Not to Strike Iran

The Begin Sadat Center, a respected think tank based at Bar Ilan University, held a conference on November 23, 2011 on the subject of "Israeli Security in a New Regional Envornment", which focused on the so-called "Arab Spring" and its implicatons. Its experts concluded that the Arab Spring is not going to result in democracy, despite original hopes in the West, and may make things even worse for Israel. "As steep as the price for hitting Iran may be, a military strike on Iran will be less painful than the cost of living with an Iranian nuclear weapons threat," argues former Mossad head Maj. Gen. (res.) Danny Yatom. "The backlash from a strike on Iran's nuclear sites will not be as bad for Israel as will an Iran armed with nuclear weapons," he says. "I don't think that those predicting apocalyptic repercussions of a strike on Tehran are correct, and even if they are, Israel can't afford to wonder if Tehran will go crazy and bomb us."

Yatom's position is diametrically opposed to that of former Mossad head Meir Dagan, who sparked significant controversy earlier this year by stating that an attack on Iran would be a foolish move that would lead to a war with an unknown outcome.

Meir Dagan, who sparked significant controversy earlier this year by stating that an attack on Iran would be a foolish move that would lead to a war with an unknown outcome.

Dagan is right: an attack on Iran would lead to an immediate conventional war with an unknown outcome. Yatom is also right: failure to attack Iran successfully and decisively in the near future will lead to an Iranian-initiated nuclear war that probably achieves some significant level of surprise. Given a choice between those two unpleasant outcomes, I'm surprised there is any debate. The decision is clear. The only question is how to accomplish that goal. Israel and the free world should have no higher priority. It's a shame we're stuck with Obama at this critical time (and a shame Bush didn't take care of Iran's nuclear program before leaving office).

many times during the day, as I deal with one problem after another, I look up to heaven and say "Lord, this would be a good time to rapture us."

Starting to look like He may be getting ready to say, "OK, enough is enough, come on up here."

The way I sees it-—We are really at war with Iran now—we just don’t know it. Its like a cold war. Iran and North Korea and Syria are the new Axis if Evil. We may well have no choice but to go to war. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States may want to OFF Iran and give us bases to launch the attacks from. BUT there are lots of ways to do the deed.
1. Atomic Bomb the joint with Cruise Missiles sub launched.
2. Blow up the single Reactor with one well placed attack—maybe a suicide mission—Take one F-14, paint it up to resemble an Iranian ship—sneak it in—crash it into the reactor and say it was an Iranian who did it who hated the mullahs.
3. Land a commando Team at the reactor—seize it and have it grow critical and explode. Blame on Iranian rebels.
4. Lots of little bombs planted by spys to wreck the power grid and disrupted some of the factories. Blow up the single Refinery as well.
5. Have a medium nation—France, England or Germany or Spain blockade Iran—All they need is a couple of subs to torpedo ships coming in and out—insurance companies would close down the shipping—No oil money—no Iran.
6. Start with just a few assassinations of high Iranian leaders. With the goal of putting the Shaw’s son on the throne as a constitutional Monarch.
7. Fake the return of the 12th Iman and have him order the people to take down the corrupt Mullahs and replace the Government with a new—Pro-western-— Caliph.
8. If you start a war—set it up to be a large scale event—like Gulf War I -—get lots of allies to make it an easy fight.

As Muslims, they would be crazy not to atomic bomb Israel if they had the opportunity.
The wrath of Allah would be on them if they had an opportunity and didn't bomb Israel because they were more worried about loosing their worldly lives in a retaliatory attack.

Supernatural beings don't seem to have much of a sense of humor if you cross them, and don't do what they want done.

In the Koran, and the examples set by his prophet Muhammed , I don't think Allah can make it more plain what he wants done.. - tom

(note; It is not what you or I believe , it is about what the Muslims believe. Given the chance I don't expect them to get "buck fever."

I believe they will pull the trigger just like we did in Hiroshima and Nagasaki)-Tom

“Its experts concluded that the Arab Spring is not going to result in democracy...”

I disagree. There is an huge and fundamental misunderstanding of what constitutes a “Democracy”. Democracy is “majority rule”. When a majority of the electorate in any nation are muzzie fundamentalists, you get a democracy of muzzie fundamentalists.

The USA is NOT a “democracy”. The USA is a “constitutional republic”. Huge friggin’ difference, which is why the DNC, Unions, government schools and liberal special interests are so keen to promote “democracy”, and dissolve the “electoral college”. We do not elect a president based upon the “popular” vote. We elect our president based upon equal representation via a “Constitutional Republican” form of government.

The term “Democracy” is just a polite way of saying “Mob Rule”. Which is exactly what is happening in the Arab World. Words have meaning. Actions have consequences. The problem is that there are just too damn many people that don’t realize this.

Now, for all of those people that find this train of thought to be too confusing or difficult to follow, please go back to reading about Kim Kardasian, watching American Idol, or fighting for a place in line at Wal-Mart in an attempt to save $10 on an XBox (but watch out for guns and pepper spray).

We need to deal with the kernel.

But Qaddafi is already dead. Oh, sorry, wrong Colonel. It's hard to keep up with all the events over there.
