As far as naval fiction, I haven’t read those two, but the British author Doughlas Reeman is very good.

Yes a cat hull SES Sport Fishing boat. In short chop wonderful. Very familiar with the benefit, and also the problems. We also tested a Don Shed designed SES that somehow Don Aronow got his hands on. It had the same advantages and gross disadvantages. Length helps, open ocean is a problem in the wrong sea state.

I was unaware that a true SES sportfisher had ever been built. Don Aranow...that brings back memories.
As you said, length helps. Sometimes a concept is not scalable up the line to different sea states. What might be terrific in SS-5 at 150 will not work at all at 50 LOA.
My own escape pod is a 48 steel cutter, its slow compared to many other solutions, but I trust it crossing oceans.
