Wall Street executives already are bracing for the possibility that Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) will take over as the senior Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee from Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.).
Waters is in line for Frank’s spot and could become chairwoman of the panel if Democrats retake the House. Frank will announce Monday that he will not seek another term in the House.
The California liberal is seen as to the left of Frank, the architect of 2010’s Wall Street reform bill, on financial issues.
While banks and other financial institutions often battled Frank, he was seen as someone they could work with. Waters, in contrast, is seen as more of an opponent.
“She's not a good face of the issues,” one financial executive said. “She's too much of a bomb thrower.”
There are reasons to think Democratic leaders would look to someone other than Waters, the second-ranking Democrat on the panel, to take over for Frank.
Waters is wrestling with a long-running ethics investigation over whether she helped secure federal funding for a bank in which her husband owned stock and previously served as a board member. Waters has maintained her innocence, and two attorneys on the House ethics committee were placed on leave for mishandling the case. An outside attorney is now investigating the matter.
“They're going to go with people who are universally respected,” said the financial executive. But a trade group president and former Hill staffer believed the top spot is Waters's to lose. This source pointed out that Waters brings geographical and racial diversity to the committee.
Jumping over Waters to another Democrat would also be a headache for Democratic leaders, as it would risk angering the Congressional Black Caucus.

We've got a president who was elected on the basis of a pretty good speech he gave at the '04 Dem Convention.
We've got a SecTreas who's a tax cheat.
We've got an AG who picks and chooses the laws he'll enforce, AND an administration who sues states for enforcing the Federal Laws currently on the books.
And now, we've got a (possible, eventual) head of the finance committee who's under investigation for financial shenanigans.
And that's just what's coming off the top of my head.

Waters began her political career as an ally of the Communist Party USA. She supported several party front organizations including the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, which was led by leading communists Angela Davis and Charlene Mitchell.

That was roughly my view of it. The membership goes from someone who is evil and corrupt, to someone who is evil, corrupt, AND stupid.

Let's leave aside the fact she has advocated for nationalizing energy companies, a'la Chavez.

1. The Dems will realize the insanity of this and force her out and into something else. She will scream Racism and for once she will be right. The Dems like their black Congressmen as window-dressing only.
2. She actually takes over and the Wall Street idiots who have been shoveling money to Obama and the Dems go into a panic as soon as Kerosene Maxine proposes her first 100% profits tax.
Either way, it should be fun to watch.
