College tuition is a big challenge for most of us, but guns can help pay the freight. So can badminton, martial arts, bowling, barrel racing, and other rodeo and equestrian sports. Scholarship money for all of those college sports is available in a vast number of places, including the schools themselves. Visit collegescholarships.org for a flight of fancy and finance.

A large number of schools used to have pistol teams as well. I was on the varsity team at the Univerisity of Wisconsin for five years ( I got a year in during graduate school).

I was a member of the Bowdoin College rifle team, but I never got any money for it. Helped my performance in ROTC though.

Kevin sounds like an idiot. Does he also hate bearing presses, drills, and hammers? Because they, like firearms, are tools that must be handled with care, exhibit precision, and are specialist tools.

I earned myself a partial scholarship while competing on the University of Akron rifle team. Ironically my brother is a better marksman than me, but I got the scholarship because I’m female. Title IX bullcrap. Anyway, the scholarship helped with tuition but I bought my own rifles, sights, and equipment. I look forward to taking my kids to Camp Perry for smallbore school and national championship matches.

Same guy who ‘detests’ guns most certainly loves scissors to the back of babies’ heads when thrust in by a Planned Parenthood butcher.

Funny what libs detest and what they like.

I was captain of the lawn dart team at UC Berkley. I took one for the team, and there went my scholarship. I still can’t wear a cap.

I've already decided that if my kid wants to shoot competitively, I'm getting them into pistol shooting. I hated lugging all that gear around the airport. I can't imagine what it is like now with TSA involved. There are more guns in pistol, but by the time you by a jacket, pants, boots, slings, glove and all the other wacky rifle stuff, you've paid for at least one more pistol.

As far as scholarships go, he can go to Annapolis like his Dad, or use my GI Bill and go wherever he wants. Rifle scholarship money doesn't go far when 3.6 scholarships are split multiple ways.

I know 4 of the people in that photo really well. I might use that photo to embarrass the guy on the upper right.

I was a member of my high school rifle team (class of 80). We had some really, really good shooters some of whom had their own expensive (Anschutz) rifles. I just used one of the school-owned Winchester Model 70 bull-barrel rifles. We kept the rifles at school, and regularly had cleaning parties after school, had dry-fire practices in one of the classrooms, and routinely carried the rifles in and out of the school to our cars for our practices down at the local armory range.

We were pretty good. One time, on a particulary good day we even beat the team from Fort Lewis at a match there. I think a couple of guys from the team went on to more national-level matches.

[sigh] I don’t think my old school even has a rifle team anymore. Sad.

They stopped their program in 1986, some of the best marksmen and women in the world trained there. There are currently talking of a new program and a new football team. ????

I’ll bet that hurts like the dickens.

I’m a collector of knives, swords, spears and other such bladed weapons... mainly because of the historical context of blades and other sharp things. Most of history is the history of metallurgy and the making and effective using of sharp objects. I also have a deep phobia of being cut. Curious, that.

I earned my letter in (at least it was called) Olympic Sport shooting at the University of Memphis.
It was enough for getting my books paid for, and was fun as heck for the trips to matches in Cincinnati and UTM.

The best part of it was that our Coach was a Presidential 100 winner - and was a USMC.

Some of the best of times!
