Bill O’Reilly On New Allegation: ‘I Don’t Think Herman Cain Can Survive Any More Of This’
Mediaite ^ | Nov.28, 2011 | Frances Martel

Posted on 11/28/2011 8:58:08 PM PST by Free ThinkerNY

While Newt Gingrich‘s unexpected rise to the top of the Republican primary ladder had taken the spotlight off of the numerous sexual allegations against Herman Cain for some time, but that problem came barreling back into headlines today as Cain himself broke the news of a new accusation: a thirteen-year affair.

On tonight’s Factor, Bill O’Reilly had some pessimistic remarks on the matter, wondering whether “Herman Cain can survive any more of this.”

Joined by panelists Leslie Marshall and Janine Turner, O’Reilly noted that on his program they were “not going to get into this,” meaning the details of the affair, but did note it “is a legitimate question” whether “Herman Cain can survive any more of this.”

The panelists expressed the same concern, as Turner noted that “especially in a conservative race, it’s going to be tough,” but that “we’ve had wonderful leaders throughout the course of our history that were great thinkers… that had affairs.”

Marshall had a more optimistic approach, noting that things look bad but “between now and November 2012 is a lifetime in politics.”

Does Bill O’Reilly mean like Palin didn’t survive being governor, because the law suits were driving her to the poor house, plus the law suits took up so much time, she couldn’t do her job?

How much longer are conservatives going to take this without putting up a better fight!

In Cain’s defense to this point there is no evidence. Just her word against his and she has some baggage herself like that bimbo Gloria Allred put forth. Let’s just sit back and see what develops if anything. We all know that there are those on Free Republic who are supporting their own candidate and will jump on the band wagon with some smears of Herman. Screw Bill O’Reilly.

Where was O’Reilly in the nineties???????? Look who survived rape and oval office masturbation and cigar tricks and semen dresses. Sheeesh....and he thinks that the latest “allegations” against Cain mean anything????

MSM needs to realize they have lied so much—nothing they say matters....like they said in the 90’s....it’s PRIVATE BEHAVIOR.

Tell ya what, people are in DEEP DENIAL if they support a candidate beside Herman Cain, but privately or publicly cheer this on (even if they suspect it is a groundless, manufactured, well-timed smear) just so their person can get traction, because BELIEVE ME, they (the professional mudslingers) will then just move on down the line to the NEXT CONSERVATIVE PERSON who threatens their power the most. These are serious people, folks. They control a huge megaphone, and it does not matter if it is true or not, if they are out to destroy someone they will destroy them. To encourage such an attack does not isolate ones’ ownself from also being a victim in the very near future by the LIBDEM/RINO Hit Machine.

Character Assassination writ large.

Is there any doubt that the lamestream media is the enemy? And is there now any doubt that Fox is part of that vile lamestream bunch? This so-called "investigative report" came via a Fox station in Atlanta.

Let there be no mistake, Fox is in same company as ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NBC and Univison. They are not to be trusted. Until a item is vetted by Free Republic, take anything from the lamestreamers as lies.

My personal belief is that Herman Cain has not been telling the truth and has in fact indulged in affairs, sexual harassment and groping as alleged. I believed that when the charges first came out and I have so posted and predicted that additional charges would emerge. I depart from most conservatives in regarding sexcapades as relatively unimportant and not particularly revealing of a candidate's character as it relates to his capacity to serve in office. That is not to say that these charges do not have a profound effect on electability.

As a practical matter I believe we are witnessing the end of the Herman Cain campaign and the question for Mr. Cain personally now becomes how to make a graceful exit. Apparently some remarks he made to the effect that he would stay in the race unless it damaged his family could be the early preparations for such an exit.

For us armchair pundits the question becomes who will get Cain's support? The obvious answer is Gingrich who is now ahead in the last four nationwide polls listed in Real Clear Politics. It does not seem likely that Herman Cain's support would go to Romney for ideological reasons. It is possible that either Santorum or Bachman could get a portion of the Cain people but it is unlikely in view of their inability to gain traction in general. So I think it is a safe bet to say that Gingrich will get a plurality if not the majority of Cain's supporters.

How does this affect the races on the ground? Romney is ahead in New Hampshire when he has two very difficult problems to contend with. First, he is on the wrong side of the expectations game and if the does not win decisively in New Hampshire he loses. So even a win for Romney by a plurality or a slim majority is a loss.

Second, Gingrich has momentum and he has increased that momentum through the endorsement of the New Hampshire Guardian newspaper which is a very significant endorsement because of the peculiarities of that newspaper in Hampshire. It is a statewide organ and it will repeat its endorsement on the front page from now until the primary vote, often attacking Romney. Eight Republican state legislators have just come out and endorsed Gingrich which further adds to his momentum.

After New Hampshire Romney faces a daunting challenge in South Carolina where he is behind Gingrich. I suppose his battle plan had been to take momentum which he expected to generate in New Hampshire into South Carolina. The problem for Romney is that you must maintain the aura of inevitability which is closely connected to an image of electability in order to prevail. He is not a favored choice of the conservative wing of the Republican Party who will consent to him as the nominee only reluctantly. They will do so only if they believe it is a question of electability and they will do so only if they think they have no other viable alternative. If Romney betrays vulnerability, he is finished. If he betrays questionable electability, he is finished.

The way it is now clear for Gingrich to perform at least credibly in New Hampshire and prevail in South Carolina. I believe by the time he has to go to Florida he will have enough money to engage in the air war necessary in that big state. He is apparently raising a lot of money now. If Newt can continue to put together a ground game in the important primary states he has a clear path to the nomination.

All I can say is don’t be so hasty to call people liars.

If she really had an affair with him for 13 years she’ll be able to prove it pretty easily. She’ll have cards, notes, messages and endless dates where they were together. If Cain challenges her she’ll put up the proof - if true.

Tell me. What objectively governs your "personal belief" (this man's innocence vs. guilt) since you seem to either infer or otherwise outright pronounce the latter? Were you present? What I would like to ask is this: Really, what evidence do you have on this allegation? Do you have a verifiable second or third witness? What proof do you have of this activity or adultery? You do know there is plenty of proof of adultery on the part of the Speaker, verifiable, of course it was all over Capitol Hill regarding Callista Bisek, so we should not be too quick to throw a stone (adultery that even ended in a follow-on marriage). The situations in the case of Cain on the other hand at this point are mere allegations from previously-proven libelous or dishonest people. Previous "smears" on Cain have vanished like farts in an Arctic windstorm after being debunked and/or the accusers knew they were on thin ice to pursue it any further with Gloria Allred pro counsel or on their own. This one imho will also fall by the wayside. Clearly a month ago people were droning on that it was the end of his campaign but he survived three attacks to still come ahead in state pollings and receive steady donations. You cannot count him out on surving this fourth groundless accusation egged on by the national Mass Liberal Media. I think it is a waste of time theorizing that such and such a candidate should make an exit, and trying to do so in an objective manner, particularly when one may well have a conflict of interest in that one openly supports one of his competitors and thereby would benefit by such a dropping out as opposed to the meting out of justice.

If it is "alleged" to be true, but it turns out that it is not, then we have to draw a line in the sand and put a stop to this one-sided politics of personal destruction once and for all.

The question is how to begin? The answer is to deny the allegations and offer proof either way.

I'll wait for the proof. Allegations only play to agendas.

Seems it was an August, 2011 Gawker originated story with anonymous sources from top to bottom. Even the reference to Bill’s “failed marriage” was said to be a term that was anonymously sourced. Guess it was a fire starter against FOX, because they had dissed Gawker as being down 75% in readership. Apparently nothing to it.

She coulda put up some proof in the interview.

Why talk about the number of texts and calls without specifying one single one that would make clear Cain’s view of her and their relationship?

Why just an ambiguous “there were 61 texts or calls to or from” when it would only take one text with damning evidence?

You say if challenged she’d put up proof. Why not sooner? She went on TV with a story she knew would be national and couldn’t furnish one physical shred of proof just her words?

Why with every one of these accusations against Cain there is not one single smoking gun?

Turner’s quote is pretty heartburn-inducing, but I’ll give her a little pass this time, since she is virtually one of the ONLY celebs around who ever spoke nicely of Sarah Palin. Unlike most other Hollywood celebs, whose expressions tended to range from refering to her as an “evil bitch” to calling for her death!
