West Chester, Ohio (CNN) -- A defiant Herman Cain tried to turn the tables on his growing legion of critics and accusers Wedneday, blasting them for allegedly engaging in gutter politics and giving no indication of any immediate intent to abandon his embattled presidential campaign.
"They have been trying to do a character assassination on me," Cain told an enthusiastic crowd in Ohio. "They are attacking my character, my reputation and my name in order to try and bring me down."
"I don't believe that America is going to let that happen," he declared.

As a matter of fact, Cain could easily put these most recent allegations behind him fairly easily. It just requires he sit down with the media and answer all the questions people are going to ask.
What is this woman to him exactly? How did he meet her? What kind of friendship was this that went on for 13 years? How often did he communicate with her? Did he take her out to sporting events and other places as she has claimed? Why was he providing her financial support? Are there any other women he is providing financial support to that might be a problem going forward?
Good grief, how hard is it to just get all this stuff out there? Cain is providing financial support to someone who appears downright shady. Why? How many others like her are running around?

I apologize, but I actually like a little actual proof. I must be crazy.
Don’t get me wrong, if she lays out all of the goodies to be photographed and some receipts/records or something then I’m cool with letting Cain roll on out, but for those of you who aren’t in the know, I’m hoping that Cain will be GA’s next Senator (taking out Chambliss) so this isn’t some, ‘hey, he won’t be President whatever” from my point of view.
Show those gifts, lady. Show the pictures of these lavish trips. Show me the checks for the babysitters for your two little bastards while you were gone. Show me anything other than your mouth and your stories.
I’m from Atlanta, if Cain walked through the lobby down at the Lenox Carlton you can bet he’d be recognized by all of the other people from Atlanta who dine there and someone would give his wife a ring.
But, hey, a lying sack of white trash’s uncontested word is all you need, I guess?
Hanging tough is not a strategy when one is under attack like Cain is. That's one of the reasons he has died in most polls.
On this latest attack, he needs to return fire. He needs to come public with details of his relationship, whatever it was. He needs the corroboration of others. Was his pastor involved? Were other friends helping this woman? What precisely did he do to help her?
He needs to get witnesses as to his involvement and destroy her case in the court of public opinion (and take it to a court of law if that is appropriate).
He needs to fight back strategically so that this kind of crap is put to rest once and for all.
I am not a PR specialist, but Cain needs to hire a good one and put together an ad of friends and colleagues testifying strongly that this is NOT something Herman Cain would do.

He's acting like a bank auditor confronted with a run on his bank. He wants to get back to checking the books when he REALLY needs to deal the screaming depositors or there won't be a bank.

The gullible supporters will believe what they hear from the baseless rumors, and will withdraw their support from Cain.
The Americans will believe that Cain is innocent until proven guilty, and keep on supporting Cain.
The gullible Americans are called RINOS.
RINOS believe in everything, and stand for nothing.
If there is no convincing documentation to this or any other rumor, fabrication or lie, then the gullible will have deserted their candidate when he needed them most.
If there is convincing documentation, then the Americans have stood by their Candidate when he needed them most.
Cain has already told the truth as he remembers it, and now he, or his staff, needs to request documentation, as in America the burden of proof is always with the accuser.
As to retaliation, that might work well in the America that you and I know, and especially well in a long-drawn-out tedious court case.
However, the MSM is in charge of Amerika’s microphone, and has declared themselves to be the investigator, Jury and Judge of THE COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION. Judgement is always meted out, or at least implied, BEFORE that “show” ends. “Instant analysis” is a common court ruling: Guilty until proven innocent.
In their Amerika, one is guilty until proven innocent. If someone says that they might have remembered smoke, then there must be fire there now.
Getting into the gutter with the MSM/Democrats/Liberal/Progressive/Socialist melange that IS Obamanation is analogous to smacking the Socialist tar baby up side his head - - - - you will NEVER free yourself.
So, I say again, Herman Cain be the Christian, statesman, gentleman that you are. Tell the truth, request documentation, when others make false claims, against you then welcome the ferocity of their most vile plots as a warrior welcomes a refreshing rainstorm in the heat of battle.
When Cain becomes the Republican Nominee for President of the United States of America, the Obamanator’s shock troops will then begin to throw their most vicious weapons at Cain.
If Cain can get his feet on the ground with these smutty tiffs, then he should be ready to dismantle the Liberals (I include Romney as a Liberal) sacred ENTITLEMENT PLANTATION.
BTW, have you noticed that the perceived biggest threat to their plantation/welfare system is the one they attack in the most vile manner?

Would you not get mad at someone who you had helped and who you considered a “friend”, when they went public and accused you of having had a physical relationship? Or would you “be fine with that”?
Anyone would be horrified with that kind of behavior from someone who was supposed to be a friend. What do you want him to do, for crying out loud?
My cell phone has probably 60+ calls/texts to and from a guy I know, who is married to someone else. It means we have worked on some things together and that we’re friends, nothing more.

That means witnesses to the SAME act; not multiple “witnesses”, each to a different act.
Even the Sanhedrin didn't convict Jesus when their paid perjurers couldn't agree on any specific acts/times that they “testified” to...Caiaphas waited until He “blasphemed” by telling them the truth about Himself, which they all witnessed.
I'll wait for actual proof, because it is NOT “the seriousness of the charges” that counts.

I guess (spelling it out) that one has no more witnesses to one-on-one interactions with any of the other folks that I brought up than you would in any other situation, but it is still believed (fairly) that they were involved in them.
And I’d suggest you believe it, too. Even without other witnesses.

It could be argued it just uses up more oxygen to talk about these claims, and encourages yet more. Sitting down with the enemedia in itself is certainly not going to help, since they are only looking for a "gotcha" from the interview to spin something else. But maybe a packaged announcement with the kind of checkable details you suggest, "for those of you in the press who are interested in this kind of thing," would be helpful. But it needs to be part of an offensive that essentially changes the subject—say, if they found a direct link to Axelrod or Obummer.
The question is whether Lesbo eruptions like this one will wear thin by themselves. I agree I will be more satisfied, on behalf of the whole field, if Cain finds a way to do something dynamic about this category of Dem-smear—which is irrelevant on so many levels. Because, as John Donne might have said, "Ask not for whom the bimbo erupts . . ."
Every time you post his name as Herb, it tells us all that what follows is nothing but partisan hate.
You might want to try a little intelligent reasoning instead of idiotic name calling. That's indicative of it driving you nuts that Cain still polls better than your guy.

And then you do what you accuse others of doing. Bring up a rumor allegation that has no witnesses to it. Yet here you go using the allegation as a way to diminish/denigrate someone.

I’m talking about his listenership, not the media, the dems, the libs etc.
Unless you heard or saw Cain’s own comment, you would not find much coverage that he has called this woman a friend, but claims he was only trying to help her financially.
Rush joined the LSM in covering that up, and proceeded only to attack the woman.
What a hypocritical decision by Rush...attack the woman while covering up the fact Cain admits having a friendship with her and trying to help her financially.
Cain only got on the outs with her after she went public claiming a long time affair.
The two facedness and double standard made my blood boil.
There has to be more to this story, just based on what Cain himself admits. And I do want to know it, whatever the truth is.
